just got gentoo installed on my laptop, a sony vaio picture book. when i was booted off the cd and had my ethernet working [just like in the docs, modprobe pcmcia_core, i82365, ds, 3c575_cb], i emerged pcmcia_cs.
configured my kernel with pcmcia and i82365.
/etc/modules.autoload has 3c575_cb. when i boot up, the module fails.
if i try loading the modules again, like i did off the cd, the laptop locks up when i try to load ds.
i didn't see anything useful in the logs. cardmgr does say it's watching 1 socket. |

some suggestions:
make sure you emerged pcmcia-cs
make sure PCMCIA/Carbus support is enabled under General Setup in your kernel
make sure you have the appropriate driver compiled under Network device support -> PCMCIA network device support
if this is a combo LAN/modem card, make sure you have PCMCIA serial device support enabled under Character devices -> PCMCIA character devices
once all of that is enabled you should be good to go after a reboot. If it's still not working, try modprobing your pcmcia NIC driver explicitely - that should also initalize general PCMCIA support. Hope this helps. |
