Hi :)
New to Gentoo-ppc64, can't get working Firefox. (My favourite browser, currently using Midori).

End of build output:

Which browser I can build successfully? Tried Otter browser - but it failed at page opening. PaleMoon crashes just at launch attempt...

Tratkazir_the_1st,

Code:
* If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=www-client/firefox-73.0.1::gentoo'`,
* the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=www-client/firefox-73.0.1::gentoo'`.
* The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/www-client/firefox-73.0.1/temp/build.log'.
* The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/www-client/firefox-73.0.1/temp/environment'.

That needs to go onto a pastebin. wgetpaste can help.

As its big, the actual error will be before
Code:
Error 1
in the log file. If you need to truncate the log, pastebin 100 lines before the Error 1 and about 20 lines after.

Hmm ... ppc64
grep the build log
Code:
grep -i killed
if that's present you ran out of RAM and the kernel OOM kicked in to keep your system alive. It killed a build job.
The OOM will also appear in dmesg.

How much RAM do you have?
Allow 2G real RAM for each make thread.

Firefox is a challenge to build on low memory systems.

4 Gb on amd64 + PORTAGE_TMPDIR on disk rather than tmpfs builds fine here.
Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support.

It depends also on value you add in MAKEOPTS variable

That's not an error. That's a notification that an error happened elsewhere. We can't help you without seeing the actual error, which is why it says to post the full log and why you've been asked for the full log.

I'll try later, at home. Actually, build log was around 16,5 Mb.

https://send.firefox.com/download/914757942afdbf33/#2zMqOe-A9o1Gw4SldRPVsQ
Only 1 download allowed, for 1 day... Tried to add more download attempts - it forces me to create\login to FF account, which I don't need.

Tratkazir_the_1st,

Your uncompressed build.log is on my server.

The error is very near the end. Its the Error 252.

323:39.13 gmake[3]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....

Unfortunately Error 252 means nothing to me.
At the top of the file there are some things to poke at but only educated guesses.

Code:
* Package:    www-client/firefox-73.0.1
 * Repository: gentoo
 * Maintainer: mozilla@gentoo.org
 * USE:        abi_ppc_64 custom-optimization elibc_glibc gmp-autoupdate kernel_linux l10n_ru ppc64 screenshot startup-notification system-av1 system-harfbuzz system-icu system-jpeg system-libevent system-libvpx system-sqlite system-webp userland_GNU

Firefox is known to break with some custom-optimizations so drop that USE on firefox.
system-libvpx may be incomptible with firefox. I don't know the stable libvpx on PPC but firefox needs libvpx-1.7. libvpx-1.8 is in Gentoo.
Check your libvpx version and turn off USE=system-libvpx if its not 1.7

Much of the code in firefox is common to thunderbird, so the above applies to that too.
Before you invest another six hours i a build, see what others say now they can read your log.

USE=gmp-autoupdate allows firefox to download binary plugins. I have USE=-gmp-autoupdate.

Even if you succeed building Firefox 73 your G5 11,2 you won't have much fun running it at the moment (see this upstream bug tracker for more info). Firefox ESR, which is 68.5.0 at the time of writing, however runs mostly fine on ppc64. Apart from that epiphany runs really well on ppc/ppc64!

Building FF with -j4 or -j5 is ok if you got some GiB RAM in your Quad. FF will tell you its' needs regarding disk space and RAM requirements when starting the emerge.

Generally, if you hit a build error and are really sure it's not 'your fault' you could also file a bug about it at https://bugs.gentoo.org/
Your fault means funky CFLAGS or some custom-optimizations or custom-cflags USE-variables. ;) Best is to stick with standard USE-flags and for your Quad COMMON_FLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=970 -pipe" would be appropriate.

Thanjks, guys :). I'll try to review configs & USE-flags. I hope at last it WOULD build AND work :).
I don't know how epiphany displays modern internet, but midori have troubles even with gmail.com :D.

Tratkazir_the_1st,

From your build log
Code:
--enable-optimize=-O1           from CFLAGS

-O2 should be safe. It will take longer to build but the code will run faster.
Its all optimisations that do not increase code size. The down side is that it makes debugging impossible.

Maybe that's one for the future. It won't change any build errors.

Tratkazir_the_1st,

Do what you did with the log the first time.
