i do
emerge --sync ; emerge -uaDvN world
and see
Code:
Calculating dependencies /

!!! Problem resolving dependencies for www-client/firefox-bin from @selected
... done!

!!! The ebuild selected to satisfy "www-client/firefox-bin" has unmet requirements.
- www-client/firefox-bin-73.0::gentoo USE="alsa ffmpeg pulseaudio startup-notification (-selinux)" ABI_X86="(64)" L10N="de -ach -af -an -ar -ast -az -be -bg -bn -br -bs -ca -cak -cs -cy -da -dsb -el -en-CA -en-GB -eo -es-AR -es-CL -es-ES -es-MX -et -eu -fa -ff -fi -fr -fy -ga -gd -gl -gn -gu -he -hi -hr -hsb -hu -hy -ia -id -is -it -ja -ka -kab -kk -km -kn -ko -lij -lt -lv -mk -mr -ms -my -nb -nl -nn -oc -pa -pl -pt-BR -pt-PT -rm -ro -ru -si -sk -sl -son -sq -sr -sv -ta -te -th -tr -uk -ur -uz -vi -xh -zh-CN -zh-TW"

  The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:
    alsa? ( !pulseaudio )

(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])
deruse /home/peter # emerge --sync ; emerge -uaDvN world

whats going wrong here?

Just sync portage and I believe it's fixed.

firefox-bin ebuild is now offering direct "apulse" support through the alsa flag and a patchelf (so no need for apulse's script and such), and the REQUIRED_USE thing is gone. alsa flag will be ignored if you also select pulseaudio though.

And, that has been working well for me, and I went back to firefox-bin a couple of weeks ago.

However, this morning's update brought up:
Code:
emerge -uDU world -p

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies  . ... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy ">=media-plugins/alsa-plugins-1.0.27-r1[pulseaudio,
abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?,
abi_mips_n32(-)?,abi_mips_n64(-)?,abi_mips_o32(-)?,
abi_riscv_lp64d(-)?,abi_riscv_lp64(-)?,abi_s390_32(-)?,abi_s390_64(-)?]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- media-plugins/alsa-plugins-1.2.1::gentoo (Change USE: +pulseaudio)
(dependency required by "media-sound/pulseaudio-13.0::gentoo" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "www-client/firefox-bin-73.0-r1::gentoo[pulseaudio]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])

I added -puselaudio USE flag to my make.conf and that made everybody happy again. I was kind of expecting that to happen. Now the thunderbird-bin elog complains "USE=-pulseaudio : audio will not play without pulseaudio installed" but audio plays just fine anyway.

Broke a long line to make the forum layout behave.Chiitoo
