I have installed dpkg installed from Portage.

I'd like to install BricsCAD in Gentoo rather than into a Debian based Linux running in Virtualbox.
I normally install using standard Gentoo methods, i.s. emerge, but I'm wondering how other Gentoo
users see this. BricsCAD offers deb, rpm and custom installation files.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or thoughts.

By the way, I"ve just installed BricsCAD for Linux in my laptop that runs Linux Mint. Not free
BricsCAD is quite amazing and anyone considering a real CAD program should take a look.
Bricsys supporting Linux is great and I sure want to support them.

When dealing with other package managers if lazy I just extract them and move the files to some non-system location, otherwise make a proper ebuild that would install it in /opt and check dependencies properly.

In case of deb, you can extract them with just "ar x file.deb" without dpkg.

Edit: That aside if you want a debian environment on the fly, just chroot is enough :) Then you can run X applications on your real X server (outside chroot) by setting proper permissions, much less invasive than a full on VM unless you have security concerns or kernel incompatibility.

Great information. I really appreciate it and will use it as you suggest. You make a point about /opt
I had not considered though I'm certainly aware. I'm also using ExpressVPN with another distro
so this will be very good advice.

Thank you much!
