I have irssi 0.8.5 installed. A new ebuild is availabe and I wanted to update. However, it fails with "access denied":

I came across the same problem, and looks like a fix is already on its way
to the portage tree. You can check bug number 7868 ( https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7868 ) for more information.

If you're in a hurry, you can grab Michael's new ebuild from bugzilla, copy it over your current irssi-0.8.5-r2.ebuild file and then just emerge it.

*** UPDATE ***

The fix is in portage now, so just do emerge sync; emerge irssi and it'll work.
