Running smokeping-2.7.3 as a OpenRC-Daemon brought me some issues.
Smokeping has been added to runlevel "default" but when I check the status after a reboot, I get the following:

Code:

/etc/init.d/smokeping status
* status: crashed

Looking into the logfile and syslog:

Code:

Sun Nov 10 17:42:18 2019 - Got TERM signal, terminating child processes.
Sun Nov 10 17:42:18 2019 - got TERM signal, terminating.
Sun Nov 10 17:42:18 2019 - got TERM signal, terminating.
Sun Nov 10 17:42:19 2019 - got TERM signal, terminating.
Sun Nov 10 17:42:19 2019 - got TERM signal, terminating.
Sun Nov 10 17:42:19 2019 - got TERM signal, terminating.
Sun Nov 10 17:42:19 2019 - got TERM signal, terminating.
Sun Nov 10 17:42:19 2019 - All child processes successfully terminated, exiting.

Code:

# /var/log/syslog
/etc/init.d/smokeping[16526]: status: crashed

Nothing helpful.

I tried to start smokeping (from the designated smokeping-user) with the "--nodaemon" flag but that ran 24h without a crash.
Running it as a service leads to a crash in under 6 hours.

How can i solve this problem? I don't want the restart smokeping via cronjob...

What happens if you start Smokeping manually as an OpenRC-Daemon AFTER the system was booted? Does it crash? Or does it work?

If the latter is the case, it could well be that at the time, when Smokeping gets started during the boot process, some resources are still missing (for example, the network interface(s) is/are not up and running - or the routing table has not been set up).

It could help to modify the dependency parameters in Smokeping's /etc/init.d start script in order to tell OpenRC to start Smokeping start later in the boot process. It could also help to add an additional sleep statement in Smokeping's init script (unsatisfactory solution, but it helps sometimes).

On the assumption that the first SIGTERM in the logs is significant, I would research why that happens and try to make it stop happening. It looks to me like something tells smokeping to terminate, and it does.
