Hi All,

I have come across one of these unit but it has had all the disks and flash removed from it so it not very functional i was wondering if anybody knew of any opensource projects to re-purpose this in to a proxy or maybe open source router like dd-wrt or something similar?

when it boots it show the following.

AMIBIOS(C)2008 American Megatrends, Inc.
Blue Coat Systems, Inc.
Product: 600 Series
Board ID: RA2
CPLD Ver: 4
CPU : VIA Nano U3100 (1.6GHz Capable)

so it appears to have a x86 architecture

Thanks

It is an x86 (AMD64) CPU for embedded applications. It was used mainly in netbooks.

Bluecoat is a network security company. You haven't given any information on the device itself, but it could have been any number of different kinds of network appliance. It might have some interesting hardware on the board (e.g., TPM, hardware RNG, etc.). Can you get the BIOS open?

I know this is a super old post, but I wanted to post my results in case others have the same question.

I have received a BlueCoat Proxy SG600 model. It uses the VIA E2 x86-64 CPU. It's bios seems proprietary but it is still an X86 system. If you pre-load an OS, like Debian or Gentoo on it, and setup Grub2 and Linux to use serial console, it will work like any other x86 machine.

Network ports seem supported. Onboard encryption chips seem detected.

The only bad news is I can't get it (yet) to boot from CDROM/DVD through the SATA ports or from Linux loaded onto a CF card in the CF card slot, as the CF card does not seem supported or visible under Linux. However, it will also netboot through the PxE and onboard LAN. You just use the ctrl-s or ctrl-b keys at startup to configure the lan card.

Cheers, and happy hacking!
