PostPosted: Sat Oct 19, 2019 1:55 pm    Post subject: [solved] Problem downloading ebuilds Reply with quote

Suddenly I have a problem downloading files with portage. It worked one day and didn't the next and I can't find the problem. :(

Code:
# emerge -vv sudo

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U  ] app-admin/sudo-1.8.28_p1::gentoo [1.8.28-r1::gentoo] USE="nls pam secure-path sendmail -gcrypt -ldap -libressl -offensive -sasl (-selinux) -skey -sssd -system-digest" 3,233 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 3,233 KiB

!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- virtual/pam-0-r1::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Mikle Kolyada <zlogene@gentoo.org> (2019-10-16)
# not needed due to openpam removal. Please
# update your packages running emerge with the
# --changed-deps option if you have problems
# with your system.

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Does anyone have an idea or a solution? Thanks in advance. :)

Yes; downloading the file using the displayed FTP address and moving it to /usr/portage/distfiles worked for me, after this
Code:
# emerge --resume
was able to continue.

Did that permanently resolve the problem, or do affected users need to do this for every package from now on?

OP: please post the output of emerge --info.

Why do you have an rsync URL in your mirror list?

For no special reason, but that unfortunately also doesn't solve the problem:

Code:
>>> Emerging (1 of 1) app-admin/sudo-1.8.28_p1::gentoo
>>> Downloading 'http://ftp.fau.de/gentoo/distfiles/sudo-1.8.28p1.tar.gz'

/usr/portage/distfiles/sudo-1.8.28p1.tar.gz.__download__: No such file or directory
>>> Downloading 'ftp://ftp.sudo.ws/pub/sudo/sudo-1.8.28p1.tar.gz'
/usr/portage/distfiles/sudo-1.8.28p1.tar.gz.__download__: No such file or directory
>>> Downloading 'https://www.sudo.ws/sudo/dist/sudo-1.8.28p1.tar.gz'
/usr/portage/distfiles/sudo-1.8.28p1.tar.gz.__download__: No such file or directory

Well, it solves the issue permanently for me, as long as the file is in the distfiles folder. This was the only ebuild that failed out of a whole bunch of updates.

For completeness, here's the complete output of the emerge call, and my info:

Code:
# emerge -1 sudo
Calculating dependencies... done!

>>> Verifying ebuild manifests

>>> Emerging (1 of 1) app-admin/sudo-1.8.28_p1::gentoo

I'm not sure, but this problem could be due to this.

OMG, another major change without a news item or detailed instructions as to how to switch, preferably a script.

WAIT! They switched to a new layout which needs a MASKED version of portage (>=2.3.77) ? Who had this "brilliant" idea?

PS: Great it even still fails!

Code:
>>> Emerging (1 of 1) app-admin/sudo-1.8.28_p1::gentoo
>>> Downloading 'http://ftp.fau.de/gentoo/distfiles/48/sudo-1.8.28p1.tar.gz'

Downloading it by hand via the new URL works however:

Thank you! Yeah, I had to delete the "files" with the __download__ suffix from /usr/portage/distfiles.
Still this was a mess.

Keyword-masked, not hard-masked. Users in unstable see it now. Everyone else keeps using the old layout, and will get the new one when that Portage goes stable. According to the message linked, the new setup should work fine for stable users until the currently-indefinite transition period ends. I downloaded updates on a stable system earlier today without issue, so for my sample size of one, that "should" seems to be holding. I don't have an rsync:// host in my GENTOO_MIRRORS. I don't know if that matters.

I would bet it matters. ;) The transition of the new server layout messed up my distfiles folder for sure. It produced softlinks with __download__ suffix there and while it is true that it is a softmask nonetheless it IS a mask, so under normal circumstances you wouldn't get the new portage which MIGHT solve the issue with the corrupted rsync download. However, it is fixed for me now and for others who might stumble on this problem:

1. switch from rsync to another mirror (ftp,http,https)
2. delete any files (softlinks to be precise) with the suffix __download__ from /usr/portage/distfile
3. upgrade portage to the atm softmasked version (2.3.77-r1 right now)

This should fix the issue.

PS: Thanks to fturco for pointing in the right direction and freke for the final puzzle piece.

OK, here's a script to make the client compatible with the new mirrors:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
:

Another cry of "wolf".

Couldn't find what that does and afraid to try.

For some reason I didn't have any problem syncing and I'm still using rsync.
The response to O.P>'s problem sounded very difficult. That's why I posted what I did.

Hm.
Nice i had stable gentoo enabled portage-2.3.76)
(and the mirrors were using http)

And the emerge of sudo, bind & bind-tools, timezone-data failed due to fetch errors.
leaving a __download__ file.
Like:
Code:

# emerge --fetchonly bind
>>> Fetching (1 of 1) net-dns/bind-9.14.7::gentoo
/var/tmp/portdist/bind-9.14.7.tar.gz.__download__: No such file or directory
/var/tmp/portdist/bind-9.14.7.tar.gz.__download__: No such file or directory
/var/tmp/portdist/bind-9.14.7.tar.gz.__download__: No such file or directory
!!! Couldn't download 'bind-9.14.7.tar.gz'. Aborting.
 * Fetch failed for 'net-dns/bind-9.14.7'
>>> Failed to emerge net-dns/bind-9.14.7
 *
 * The following package has failed to build, install, or execute postinst:
 *
 *  (net-dns/bind-9.14.7:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)
 *
# ls -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1    1022 i2pd          21 20 okt 10:53  bind-9.14.7.tar.gz.__download__ -> f4/bind-9.14.7.tar.gz

Also not showing portage as the owner.. as i expected.
Removing the files doesn't fix the fetch problem   other fetched from succeeding ebuild files had owner 33 instead of portage (=250).

On another system there is no problem building this. So other factors are at play as well.

Meanwile a build for many perl modules, pam modules, dovecot, layman, portage have no problem rebuilding.

Installing portage 2.3.77-r1 seems to help fetching the files.
Not a real elegant surprise.

Try "help :", "man sh", or not constantly flipping out that everyone is trying to turn your computer into a bomb.

That's the overarching problem here, isn't it? A complete refusal to learn or understand anything, whether it's a week old, a decade old, or a command from System V, combined with a persecution complex that you're 100% certain every line of code and every developer is attacking you personally. It's just obnoxious ignorance at this point.

I followed WintermuteX's guidelines and selected using mirrorselect nice addresses to me in ftp, http and https form, leaving out rsync.

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Mirrorselect

My make.conf

Code:
GENTOO_MIRRORS="https://gentoo.c3sl.ufpr.br/ http://gentoo.c3sl.ufpr.br/ ftp://mirrors.tera-byte.com/pub/gentoo http://gentoo.mirrors.tera-byte.com/ ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.gentoo.org/ http://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.gentoo.org/ https://mirrors.soeasyto.com/distfiles.gentoo.org/ http://mirrors.soeasyto.com/distfiles.gentoo.org/ ftp://mirrors.soeasyto.com/distfiles.gentoo.org/ https://mirror.eu.oneandone.net/linux/distributions/gentoo/gentoo/ http://mirror.eu.oneandone.net/linux/distributions/gentoo/gentoo/ https://gentoo.osuosl.org/ http://gentoo.osuosl.org/"

Chill out man. Why the personal attack? What button did I press?

I did google for it. And as for afraid to try, on a different post long ago someone told some else to " rm -r /". I do know what that does.

Using unstable portage is a wormhole made to happen. Give me a call when portage is fixed.
