I just installed LXQT. AFAIK, it installed correctly. When I try to launch it with startlxqt, I just get these errors instead:

Code:
qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: minimal, offscreen, wayland-egl, wayland, xcb.

Aborted

Can anyone tell what is going on here?

UPDATE

In my particular case the problem was:
1. I was trying to launch it by typing startlxqt. That's what the LXQT wiki page implied. The correct command is startx.
2. My ~/.xinitrc file should not include ck-launch-session, because I am using elogind.
3. I don't know if this command made a difference, but it didn't hurt:
Quote:
export QT_QPA_PLATFORM_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib64/qt5/plugins/

Try
Code:
export QT_QPA_PLATFORM_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib64/qt5/plugins/

You'll want to have the command in your user's '.xinitrc', and then use 'startx' (if like me, you're not into display managers).

Like so:

Code:
exec startlxqt

I'm not using *kits nor systemd or elogind, so some things (such as shutting down via the menu) will not work with just this, so you may want to add at least 'ck-launch-session' to that line as well.

It still won't launch, and it gives me the exact same error message.

My ~/.xinitrc file now includes:

Code:
exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --exit-with-session startlxqt

I also executed this command:

Code:
export QT_QPA_PLATFORM_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib64/qt5/plugins/

What should I do next to fix or troubleshoot this?

And you're launching it using the 'startx' command?

No. The LXQT page explicitly says:

Quote:
The startlxqt command launches LXQt.

"startx" is mentioned briefly on the page with no context. I'm fairly new to Gentoo. This is the first time I've encountered it.

So anyway, now I've tried startx. That fails too, but in an entirely new way. The screen blanks briefly, and then it prints:

Can you see the problem anywhere in here?

And you're launching it using the 'startx' command?

No. The LXQT page explicitly says:

The startlxqt command launches LXQt.

"startx" is mentioned briefly on the page with no context. I'm fairly new to Gentoo. This is the first time I've encountered it.

Ah, I'll see if I can make it a bit clearer over there.

So anyway, now I've tried startx. That fails too, but in an entirely new way. The screen blanks briefly, and then it prints:

Code:

Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

xinit: connection to X server lost

Firstly, I'd recommend you use a regular, non-root user for this. :]

Secondly, I think I now remember from your other post, that you went with 'elogind'? In that case, you would (or at least should) not have consolekit, and no 'ck-launch-session'. The article could use some updates with regards to that as well.

That is, if indeed using 'elogind', drop the 'ck-launch-session' part. I didn't think about that at all when I first mentioned it, so apologies for the confuddle!

Not sure about this one, but it might be a problem with things that want dbus.

You might remember me from Gentoo projects such as Forums, LXQt, Qt, and Wine.

I was. This machine isn't fully set up yet. I needed to mount a USB drive to divert the error messages from the screen to a file, so I could post that from my other machine. It won't let the regular user mount or write to an external USB drive, so I had to go to root. I suppose that's a permission somewhere that I can set.

Yes! I didn't know that was relevant to this issue.

That solved it! It's running now. Thank you for the help!
