hi all!

i am searching for a way to use both frequencies 2.4 and 5 ghz together on a single wifi device. i want to setup a wifi repeater / ap using the 2.4 ghz band for repeating e.g. an open wifi hotspot and enable an own accesspoint on the 5ghz band. i only have one wlan0 interface that is able to use both. is this possible??
perhaps someone can help me with this???

thx in advance

Many wireless routers support both 2.5 and 5 GHz, and connect to the LAN using one hardware port. I have two ASUS wireless devices that do this, both sold as routers. In my application, one is a router and the other is an access point. BOTH of these offer both 2.4 and 5 GHZ connection on the WifFi side. One of these, the router connected to CableModem, is hardwire connected 192.168.0.10 on the LAN to a computer that is designated as DNS for the LAN, mail and print sever. The other is 192.168.0.31 hardwire connected to the router.

I'm happy enough with the devices. The router is model RT-AC66W, the router used as access point is model RT-N66U.

thx @cboldt but that ist not what i am looking for....
my intention in the end is to setup a gentoo powered mini pc or raspberry pi for wifi repeater / ap usage and finally to route all traffic trough an vpn.
e.g. internet <-> vpn provider (VPN <-> hotel wifi <- 2.4ghz -> gentoo box VPN ) <- 5ghz -> my devices
and the gentoo box uses ONE dual band wifi adapter (wlan0)
of course there are perhaps pre built routers able to do this, but i want to do it myself ;)

Ahh, sorry about that.

Why do you need the frequency differentiation?

My first reaction is to seek a way to assign two SSID (essid) to the device - my ASUS routers have this facility, one band has one SSID, the 5 GHz band has a different one.

Beyond that, I'm not any help. Maybe check net-wireless/hostapd
