:D

No, it's not for real. Unfortunately, most people don't realize that.

Which happens first? Conversion to metric or IPv6?

The two are probably more comparable than you may realize. Metric is already universal in domestic auto manufacturing, the military, NASA, etc.

Similarly, almost every ISP in the US has IPv6 support of some sort.

The non-metric system is called the empirical system, yes?

I can see a plus side to that. More thinkery. Activates you more to think. ouch.

Besides of that, it's easier to comprehend the metric system. Why?

Well, universal except when it isn't (if it were "universal" at NASA, I don't think there would have been a conversion error). It's also beyond specialized areas, such as "12 FL OZ (355 mL)". I thnk metric is on most products (or at least most "mass market" products).

I think they ought to switch stuff like that to "400 mL (whatever FL OZ)" or the common size as appropriate. Using both prominently would solve the issue. Take it a step farther an major areas could produce street signage with "normal / metric". With their investment in retooling, they could provide manufacturing services of those signs to areas that can't afford the retooling costs. Similarly with weather. I'm not sure how much remains after that. With that in place, it becomes common for people to associate the two variations rather than the need to convert constantly. Then in a couple / few generations, the old stuff can go away.

I've yet to see any company switch internally, and I've worked with one that used it externally. I was very surprised that my newest ISP arrangement didn't come by default with IPv6, so they don't even appear to be trying to migate anyone.

It smells of mime artistry.

As long as all time and positioning systems rely on the old babylonian base60 system, you americans can proudly shout:
decimal is satire!
And if any binary system in the digital world claims world domination:
This must work another 5000y without error to outpace the old babylonian system.

Not NASA. I was just at Johnson Spaceflight Center in the ISS control room gallery a few weeks ago, and the big screens in mission control listed the station's altitude in miles.

Not miles. Meters.

Elevation is measured in meters.

For example Mt Everest is 8,848 m.

Or ~409,000 for the ISS, give or take a kilometre.
