Hello Everyone
I recently installed a new laptop and from portage it installed firefox developer edition with lots of telemetry and stuff that I don't want. Some of the functions appeared in grey. I managed to remove the telemetry and experiments but I was wondering which version is not developer edition. I don't see it in portage (versions >60 are developer editions). Now they had this issue with the certificates and adons.
For people who want to disable telemetry and experiments here is the link how to do it. For me it's a releif.
https://www.askvg.com/tip-disable-telemetry-and-data-collection-in-mozilla-firefox-quantum/
and something new that is more comprehensive
https://restoreprivacy.com/firefox-privacy/
Thanks in advance |

I think the options are disabled "greyed out" because they are disabled by Gentoo, not enabled. I don't think Mozilla wants "unofficial" reports. Maybe there are some "patches" in the repo that might show something. |

Nope, can't imediately see why it's disabled. Nothing obvious in the files, eclass or patches...
Code: | PATCH_URIS=( https://dev.gentoo.org/~{anarchy,axs,polynomial-c}/mozilla/patchsets/${PATCH}.tar.xz ) |
Maybe you could check about:config and see what it says about telemetry.
Good luck. |

If you have USE=bindist (binary distributable) enabled, the official Mozilla Firefox branding is disabled and you get the "Developer" edition. If you don't distribute your custom built Firefox to others it's safe to disable the USE flag. |

Thanks. Indeed bindist was enabled. I will recompile it without it. |

I ran about:config and telemetry was enabled. I disabled it according to the first link that I posted. |
