On a new install I get black screen after kde splash screen and a mousecursor is available.

I login via x2go as I have no monitor nor mouse attached, but I will try local login too, and report back. But as lxde is working fine I suspect X server being setup correctly. What else does plasma need?

lxde login via x2go client works fine. From there glxinfo:

Locally attached monitor, keyboard and mouse I see that sddm is starting and I am able to successfully login to a plasma session.

But I discovered another issue that is annoying as I want to run this box without keyboard and mouse. The box stays in tty1 until I hit a button on the keyboard, like enter or anything else. Only then it switches to tty7 where the graphical login gui of sddm is waiting (or the autologin is happening - if configured).

I suspect it could be because of elogind use so I will remove it and try with consolekit instead.

I also tried xdm and that one did not show this behavior. I tried other loginmanagers as lxdm lightdm and / or gdm and as said sddm and plasma compiled without elogind.

the switch back to consolekit did not help - samething on sddm.

lxdm does switch but only showing black window. Lightdm does not switch too.

Is there a possibility to not use any loginmanager and just autologin to a plasma session directly?

Or what could be the source of theses problems, and what information could help anybody to analyze this?

I the meantime I'll try to compile dantrells gnome without systemd to see wether the included gdm switches tty automatically without needing to push a button to trigger the switch to tty7.

Try with `haveged` installed.

I did emerge it but still the same thing. Login stops at tty1 login prompt. Do I have to configure it somehow?

Or could that be because of some kernel option missing?

It also needs to be added to default runlevel.

Oh, man, it was late and I did not think to the obvious. Thanks for mentioning and for your patience with me. Unfortunatelly I have got another problem in the meantime with this box, that root gets mounted as ro; so I can't test yet, if that solves the problem reported here.

With haveged in default runlevel, it moves further and does not stop at non-gui login prompt @tty1.

But I am back in the situation only having a black screen with mouse cursor.

I start thinking it has nothing to do with kde-plasma, as gdm successfully launches plasma session. Maybe more of a sddm problem and or intel gpu, as on my main box with radeon rx580 I can successfully launch kde-plasma from sddm.
