Keep in mind that for this to work, you need to have the "computer address space" on a separate physical network with a firewall in between. The simplest solution would be a Linux box with 3 NICs on it (or more) where 1 is the WAN, 2 is the trusted network (no wifi in my case) and 3 is the wifi router with all the random consumer devices on it. Net 3 only gets access to the Internet, nothing else.
Right, I need to buy another NIC.

I use static mapping, centrally administered on my server. DHCP maps MACs to hostnames, and BIND maps hostnames to IP addresses. I can "move" a machine by editing a zone file. Adding a machine calls for adding it to the zone file, and a MAC mapping in dhcp.conf. All other machines are simply set up as dhcp clients/

Same as krinn, with 20 addresses for guests using DHCP.

Wow. I give them five slots, and i still have to whitelist their MAC address.

This running this, with one of these for wireless. I do use it's DHCP server, but only for 802.11 and VMs.
I'd run pfSense like everyone else, but I only get ~600Mbit through that hardware, due to the NIC driver as far as I can tell. Running IPFire it can do 1Gbps on all ports just fine.
GNU/Linux is more familiar anyway, and I can compile stuff for it on my desktop, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Everything on my home network has been assembled or disassembled by me, and everything runs a FOSS(ish) operating system. :P
