Hi there,
After a couple of weeks of sort of (read: not at all) working on getting X and KDE up and running, I finally got it done! *does a happy dance* However, I've come across an annoyance. Been new to the GUI's on Linux, I'm not sure how to do what I want to do.
When I get into KDE, I do it through kdm. When I ran a Redhat box on an old x86, I would just type startx.
The issue I'm running into is that I want to be able to get back to the console that I started from, rather than contend with logging in graphically (I have a variety of reasons for this).
Now, assuming I manually start kdm from a console interface, how can I get it back to console, effectively killing KDE and X?
It's probably something stupidly simple, but I'm too tired and lazy to look (going to bed when I'm done with this post), so I figured I'd ask here. I'm also in the middling of compiling MySQL, so I can't really close down like I'd like to either. But all I want is straight console, no GUI at all.
Any assistance would be much apprecaited, if you can make out what I want from someone who has had one too many to drink and is about to fall asleep at the keyboard.
Thanks!

If you want your console back try [CTRL]-[ALT]-[F1] (all at the same time). This doesn't kill X/KDE, but gives you back your console. Use F1 throught F6 for different consoles while F7 will usually jump back to your GUI. |
