Hi, I was using net-misc/teamviewer since a long time, but recently it stopped working.
Current Portage version is 13.2.13582, while I also tried the very recent release by creating a trivial local teamviewer-13.2.26559.ebuild myself.

Starting the service:
Code:
rc-service teamviewerd start
 * Starting teamviewerd ...                                                                                                                              [ ok ]

# cat /var/log/teamviewer13/TeamViewer13_Logfile.log

As far as I know, the service must be always running for the client, eventhough the client will be used as client only starting the connection and not intercepting connections.
Starting the client as user:
Code:
$ teamviewer
Init...
CheckCPU: SSE2 support: yes
Checking setup...
Launching TeamViewer ...
Launching TeamViewer GUI ...

Nothing happens, no GUI appears. No GUI process running:
Code:
$ pgrep -alf team
27469 /opt/teamviewer13/tv_bin/teamviewerd -d

Code:
$ cat ~/.local/share/teamviewer13/logfiles/TeamViewer13_Logfile.log

What I'v been doing is just to download the tarball, extract it and run it. I thought it was too troublesome to start service when needed.

https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/linux/

I'm currently using v13.2

Try stopping or killing the (systemd) "logind" service, which seems to be pulled automatically as a dependency, at least by the skypeforlinux package.
Apparently, TV detects that it is running and tries to use it but for some reason is not working as expected. So stop it and run TV again, it should work.
Feel free to restart logind after, although I didn't see it causing any issues by remaining stopped.
BTW, do this if you're on a non-systemd flavor.

Awesome, that solved it. However I had elogind-daemon running, and that sys-auth/elogind was a requirement to get gnome-base/gnome-settings-daemon and net-libs/gnome-online-accounts emerged, while I don't actually use Gnome or systemd, just Xfce with OpenRC.

PS.: Too bad this was not able to solve my long time issue about not starting vmware-workstation.

Worked for me too.
But elogind was restarted by teamviewer.

So I had to remove elogind from system, and it worked.

As of current net-misc/teamviewer-14.2.2558 and also my local teamviewer-14.2.8352.ebuild, the issue is till the same. teamviewer GUI only starts after killall elogind-daemon. Why?

Comparing the logfiles with running elogind-daemon:

Without elogind it tries to fallback to consolekit and fails.

However I have other issues that I can't solve and that may be related:
  • I don't get an ID, eventhough the client says something like green status, "Ready (secure connection)".
  • I can't enter my account credentials. The fields E-Mail and password are just dead or disabled.

After complete migration to elogind, all issues are solved with Teamviewer. The GUI starts, an ID is generated and the account can be registered.

This means global USE="elogind -consolekit -systemd", unmerging sys-auth/consolekit, removing consolekit from all runlevels, adding elogind to boo runlevel.

-> [SOLVED]

I have consolekit installed and it is too lazy to disable it system-wide. So, I modified teamviewer's ebuild in the local repository and removed the following restriction from RRDEPEND:
Quote:
!sys-auth/consolekit

Then built teamviewer. Now I have no issues using teamviewer as client with consolekit. I tested connection from Gentoo to Ubuntu 18.04. The only issues I see very rarely are segmentation faults (with no cores dumped) from teamviewer client.

Here is my configuration:

Code:
net-misc/teamviewer-15.1.3937 on amd64

Code:
$ uname -a
Linux nierika 4.19.66-gentoo #3 SMP Wed Aug 28 20:18:20 EEST 2019 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8300H CPU @ 2.30GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Code:
$ equery uses consolekit
[ Legend : U - final flag setting for installation]
[        : I - package is installed with flag     ]
[ Colors : set, unset                             ]
 * Found these USE flags for sys-auth/consolekit-1.2.1:
 U I
 + + acl       : Add support for Access Control Lists
 - - cgroups   : Use the kernel to track processes instead of the session cookie.
 - - debug     : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get meaningful backtraces see https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Quality_Assurance/Backtraces
 - - doc       : Add extra documentation (API, Javadoc, etc). It is recommended to enable per package instead of globally
 - - evdev     : For handling VT switching with a session controller.
 + + pam       : Add support for PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) - DANGEROUS to arbitrarily flip
 + + pm-utils  : Adds support for suspend/resume using sys-power/pm-utils
 + + policykit : Use the PolicyKit framework (sys-auth/polkit) to get authorization for suspend/shutdown.
 - - test      : Enable dependencies and/or preparations necessary to run tests (usually controlled by FEATURES=test but can be toggled independently)
 - - udev      : Enable virtual/udev integration (device discovery, power and storage device support, etc)

Code:
$ grep consolekit /etc/portage/package.use/*

/etc/portage/package.use/01-all:sys-auth/pambase consolekit
