|
|
So I was following the Wiki to install Gnome and I have a problem when it tries to install glib. From what I can tell the latest version of glib (2.60.0) has changed the build system to use meson, but the ebuild file has not been updated to reflect that. I am not familiar with the syntax of ebuild files, so I don't know how to update it. As a test I changed my package.unmask file to point to the previous version of glib (2.58.3-r1) and emerge built that without issues. I have attached the build.log for reference and the output of emerge --info if needed.

If you selected one of the bundled profiles then the appropriate version of GLib is pulled in for your chosen GNOME release version.
For instance, for GNOME 3.24, every version of GLib higher than 2.54.0 is masked. Anything else is not supported.
If you aren't using one of the bundled profiles or you are overriding the bundled profiles, you are on your own.
If you unmasked GLib on purpose, please understand there are a handful of packages that don't build but they are either keyword masked or profile masked until further review. If overriding, please be mindful of this (i.e. until GNOME 3.32 is available for testing, don't expect anything related to it to work). _________________ Dantrell B. |

Stuck at installing glib, don't have any clue how to continue... Any clue?

I have decided to keyword mask GLib 2.60.0 until I finish GNOME 3.32 (which should be sometime this week). _________________ Dantrell B. |

Why, as 2.60.0 isn't working if I undestand correctly? Now I got other issues, to be continued. |

Now ibus is giving me hard time, any clue?
https://pastebin.com/yhaAWP0t
I've gone through the wiki as best as I can but still getting very hard time getting this working...
Edit: masked (newer version) ibus-1.5.19, seems to work so far... |

Because there have been 2 reports regarding this despite it previously being profile masked.
If I receive a report regarding it while it's keyword masked, I'm ignoring it.

Please share the full build log starting from the emerge command used.

I only almost guarantee that you'll have a working setup if you follow the official documentation immediately after extracting a stage 3 tarball (i.e. make your personal changes after GNOME is running).
I have stated before that even though I have simplified the instructions as much as possible, following them requires a certain degree of experience with Gentoo and diverging from them requires even more. _________________ Dantrell B. |

I'm not sure if I understand you here, I went as the wiki told me, but I got stuck there. This wasn't the only issue anyway. I had to mask multiple packets to even continue building gnome, which ended to my frustration at one point...

I got around this using newer version of ibus.

OK, maybe I did make mistake following this guide https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/GNOME/GNOME_Without_systemd
Or maybe the problem was to use 3.24 version of your repo. Wiki suggested to use that, so I followed it. I kept getting weird make errors and whatnot. I'm not new to Gentoo, been using it couple years but yes I had almost 10 years break.
Anyhow, I tested your 3.30 repo and after I changed profile, I did not come to any error at all! So cheers! Now I'm using Gnome with openRC Gentoo.
Thank you for making this possible. Keep up the good work mate. |

Tried to use search (and google), but didn't find any hits. So here goes another dumb question:
Have you guys had clock issues with Gnome 3.30? Somehow Gnome shows clock -3h that it actually is... I've been playing and trying to find what causes this but not found solution. I have my BIOS set on UTC time and hwclock is UTC also, with timezone set to Helsinki (+3 UTC).
System time is correct:
"neffa /home/rmk # date && hwclock
Fri Apr 5 21:19:57 EEST 2019
2019-04-05 21:19:57.140048+03:00"
In settings there is "Automatic Date & Time" and "Automatic Time Zone" disabled with note "Conflicts with underlying ecosystem". Time Zone shows "UTC (Helsinki, Finland)". When I open time zone it shows (UTC (UTC+00) and whatever location I choose it stays sameway, so always +0 UTC. If I change clock manually, it changes hwclock also, which isn't good thing. |

This is covered in the Gentoo Handbook.
If you are sure your system time is right, check the system timezone (GNOME uses this).

P.S. This is covered in the official documentation (specifically, the first item in this table).
I suggest you review that list so you know how my GNOME releases differ from upstream. _________________ Dantrell B. |

GNOME Without Systemd has come to a fork in the road.
Dantrell's GNOME Without Systemd Project (Part 3) continues at that link.
With the introduction of elogind to GNOME in the gentoo repo, from GNOME 3.30, support for that solution is at GNOME 3.30 for all init systems
Please post in the branch for your install. _________________ Regards,
