|

Hello, I'm currently trying to connect to the internet with wicd. At first, I ran genkernel with gentoo-sources, but it didn't seem to compile the rtlwifi hardware group after doing some digging with the kernel modules and reading forum posts. I've tried again with vanilla-sources, but it caused the usual "root device not found" shenanigans. At this time, it appears that I can only boot to gentoo-kernel but I don't know how to add my network driver under a genkernel'd kernel. Any help would be appreciated _________________ "UNIX is very simple, it just needs a genius to understand its simplicity." -Dennis Ritchie

Apologies for any possible necro-posting but I managed to get the wireless working, marking as solved. _________________ "UNIX is very simple, it just needs a genius to understand its simplicity." -Dennis Ritchie |

Apologies for any possible necro-posting | Your first post is barely over a week old. It's not even cold yet. Necro-posting kicks in when posts are long dead, and even then can be excused if you are returning to make a substantial contribution (e.g. posting a novel and non-obvious solution to a problem likely to be of general interest).
How did you solve your problem? Describing your solution may help someone else who finds this thread, even if it is just a reminder about not skipping steps. |

Initially, I've ran genkernel with the --menuconfig flag but I decided to not "cheat" by manually configuring it.
The kernel option I used was:
Code: | Device Drivers --->
Network device support --->
Wireless LAN --->
[*] Realtek devices
Realtek rtlwifi family of devices --->
<*> Realtek RTL8188EE Wireless Network Adapter
|
Genkernel has caused me more problems in the long run so I have stopped using it _________________ "UNIX is very simple, it just needs a genius to understand its simplicity." -Dennis Ritchie |
