PostPosted: Tue Mar 19, 2019 5:37 am    Post subject: [SOLVED]Problems with emerge binutils and gcc Reply with quote

Hi,

I cannot upgrade my binutils and gcc for quite some time (I assume a little more than 6 months, my command line history shows I was trying to fix this since September on and off.) and decided to ask here. Since it has been some time I couldn't find specific fixes for my binutils and gcc versions.
Is there any way to fix my system? Or should I (can I) use a temporary precompiled versions of them to solve this and re-emerge them normally?
Any direction you point will be great help and save me from reinstalling and reconfiguring this system.

PS:
Code:
emerge -e --keep-going @world
didn't work.

Thanks in advance,

Current versions:

Code:
binutils-2.29.1-r1
gcc-6.4.0-r1

Versions, trying to emerge but fail:

Code:
binutils-2.30-r4
gcc-8.2.0-r6

gcc error output (does not give anything):

Code:

Code:
Killed signal terminated program cc1plus

Code:
internal compiler error: Killed (program cc1plus)

Typically out of memory error, you can check it also with dmesg.
Try to compile with lower MAKEOPTS value

Well I cannot thank you enough, being away from the field and forgot the specs of the VPS. Now that it has been solved, making this thread as solved.

But now I wonder if it would be possible to use lower MAKEOPTS value only for specified packages. Maybe again I should look it up first or start a new thread. I mean I only couldn't compile these two packages, others were fine.

So like using specific use flag in config or global variable before emerge, I should be able to use emerge -vuaDN world, emerge uses -j3 for these, and -j5 for the rest of the system.

Yes it is possible. The solution is here:

Well, thank you!

Haven't connected the dots until you sent this. Now my emerge -e system will resume faster!
