I have upgrade package media-fonts/noto-20181024. In package noto-20181024, it contains 1800+ ttf files. Howeveer, in media-fonts/noto-20170403, it contains only 180+ ttf files.

So with the latest version of noto, my desktop (actually dwm) runs with unbearable cpu cost calling libfontconfig.so. Can fontconfig handle such a big number of font files? Or should I set some config to help it runs faster?

The current Noto ebuild installs too many files. Only a few are required.

1) Log in as root

2) cd /usr/share/fonts/noto

3) Remove all files except

Code:
NotoSerif-{Regular,Italic,Bold,BoldItalic}.ttf
NotoSans-{Regular,Italic,Bold,BoldItalic}.ttf
NotoSansMono-{Regular,Bold}.ttf
NotoSans{Symbols,Symbols2}-Regular.ttf

4) Run
Code:
mkfontscale
mkfontdir

It's a pretty messed up situation. I've gone back to the old (2017) version, installed media-fonts/source-han-sans for CJK and put the updated NotoColorEmoji.ttf in my ~/.local/share/fonts/ for now.
