You've won the First Annual Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence.

In [!!!] Moving forward to a new paradigm of OTW & politics, Bones McCracker wrote:
I predict you abandon this idea within a week, because it's a hell of a lot more work than you thought. :P

I'm more surprised I continued this long after I posted about a General Discussion forum. I think it was enough of a habit that I forgot to stop.

To be more specific, I'll no longer bother with merging threads.

hey don't get me wrong, there was a time when otw was relevant, but most of the posters here today don't even use gentoo, and the internet is way bigger than it was in the early 00's. we don't need to be a refuge from people banned from other websites

I think I gave it more than enough time to "stick." It didn't. Eventually every bird is kicked out of the nest. And while it might be fun to chase after insanity once in a while, I'm not trying to achieve it.

That would imply 4chan hasn't become just a subreddit now.

So? Let's go somewhere else.

Wasn't there a site called real-otw.org or something like that?

Yep, been thinking the same. I would be willing to pay to play.

TROTW is the site you're thinking of. Ralphus Maximus ran it for a while, and many old timers posted there, but it's gone.
Also, collectivevoid was sold.

https://www.collectivevoid.com/ <--- this used to be the alternative OTW.

Correct me if I'm wrong Naib, but aren't the forums independently owned?

Well maybe if they didn't have their insulated chat network bubbles...

They are not. They also come under the Gentoo namespace and thus are subject to the common CoC

Fair enough. desultory has presented eloquence and levelheadedness in the matter based on the responses I've seen - I again appreciate the excellent administration/moderators of this forum, who have been nothing but fair and down to earth.

I love this quip from TPTB:

That's funny. I don't recall since 2017 there being any major forum catastrophe; certainly not one that was covered in the media. What I do remember is a rather embarrassing incident last year when the Gentoo Github repos were cracked, and this was covered all over the media.

Glass houses it seems.
