I do agree that it would be a very bad idea for firefox to drop alsa support.
Are you sure this discussion is still current? The last update on the bug you refer to is more than a year old and my current firefox still seems to be working nicely on my alsa-only system. _________________ The gentoo way of bringing peace to the world:

besides gentoo i use also other linux distributions but they do not pull FF from gentoo so they do not have it patched.
my aim is to get FF to fix their shit so that there is no need for patching. _________________

AFAIK there is currently no patching involved. It is merely a matter of configuring with ALSA enabled. FF didn't exactly drop ALSA support, they declared they won't maintain it any more and when it breaks they won't fix it. _________________ My Gentoo installation notes.

If you don't like this problem (which doesn't apply to you anyway) then don't use the browser. Posting callout threads is a shitty thing to do, btw. |
