Hello,

I wonder if this is arm specific. After cleanly migrating the Rpi-3B+ from profile 13 to 17, using the advised script:
https://www.gentoo.org/support/news-items/2018-09-07-arm-17-profile-migration.html

and then emerging uDN with FF and TB masked, tried to upgrade FF from 50 to 52, which always fails at the install phase. Can someone help, please?

Code:
[ebuild     U ] www-client/firefox-52.9.0 [52.6.0] USE="dbus gmp-autoupdate jemalloc pulseaudio -bindist -custom-cflags -custom-optimization -debug -eme-free -gtk2 (-hardened) -hwaccel -jack -neon (-pgo) (-rust) (-selinux) -startup-notification (-system-cairo) -system-harfbuzz -system-icu -system-jpeg -system-libevent -system-libvpx -system-sqlite -test -wifi" L10N="pt-PT -ach -af -an -ar -as -ast -az -bg -bn-BD -bn-IN -br -bs -ca -cak -cs -cy -da -de -dsb -el -en-GB* -en-ZA -eo -es-AR -es-CL -es-ES -es-MX -et -eu -fa -ff -fi -fr -fy -ga -gd -gl -gn -gu -he -hi -hr -hsb -hu -hy -id -is -it -ja -ka -kab -kk -km -kn -ko -lij -lt -lv -mai -mk -ml -mr -ms -nb -nl -nn -or -pa -pl -pt-BR -rm -ro -ru -si -sk -sl -son -sq -sr -sv -ta -te -th -tr -uk -uz -vi -xh -zh-CN -zh-TW"

Are you using distcc ?

1 GB RAM is not much when using Gentoo.

Thank you for helping. I was thinking nobody would but, of course, this is not amd64, this is arm which obviously doesn't have enough stage lighting to make one's brilliance shine.

No, I am not. But the previous version, which is still working (52.4.0?), has built correctly before, and the same with Thunderbird (52.6.0?) which also fails building now.

Anyway, I lost interest in this. I just trashed the whole Rpi Gentoo filesystem and went off to Raspbian which just works on Rpi. I heard that Linux is about "do one thing and do it well", which fits Raspbian very well. And when a problem arises, there's a very helpful and prompt community there. So my kids desktop is now fully working (with firefox and all).

I have resisted systemd since the beggining but it's time for me to assume I was wrong. First, concerning privacy, I have nothing to hide, anyone can hack me. And then, the vast majority of Linux distros adopted it and didn't look back, are they all wrong? (BSD is not Linux)

And anyway, this is not my main computer. On my MacBook Pro I dual-boot macOS and Gentoo although I must confess macOS is my primary OS, whereas Gentoo is a backup for chores that macOS is not suitable for.

Keep well, I will

jssilva,
In case you come back to this, it was likely an out-of-memory error. This could easily be fixed by plugging in a flash drive and partitioning it as swap space, or by creating a swap file on your SD card.
Best of luck with Raspbian.

Thank you for helping.

I remember I had a 1GB swap partition on my 32GB SD card, and I remember seeing it being used when I ran htop.

Raspbian is very good for install and forget, thank you.
