|
|
I have followed the wiki to the best of my ability but 3d acceleration does not work. Glxinfo only returns
Code: | name of display: :0
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig |
I used eselect opengl to set the opengl interface to nvidia but I must have missed something else, not sure what.
My Xorg.0.log is here: https://paste.pound-python.org/show/KMbALqvj4123Wkn5ao7j/
To me, the most interesting line is
Code: |
[ 2664.917] (II) NVIDIA GLX Module 410.57 Tue Sep 18 23:27:13 CDT 2018
[ 2664.917] (EE) Can't find the server GLX vendor interface.
|
But using google I only find people on the legacy drivers who run into that message.
Also, the graphics information section in the nvidia-settings program is completely empty.
Does anyone know what is wrong? |

You can get more information enabling libgl debug to get more clues:
Code: |
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose
|
Verify if your Xorg is loading the correct libglx ( sometimes the installer can leave more than one version ). |

Where am I supposed to set the LIBGL_DEBUG variable? Before starting X? Before runnig glxinfo? Neither seems to do anything. The only glx I can see references to in the Xorg log is the nvidia one, are there any other log files I could check? |

I updated to the 410.66 drivers but unfortunately nothing has changed |

Oh, ok. Do you know if nvidia has some sort of equivalent? |

I do not use the proprietary nVidia drivers. Can you reproduce the problem when using the open source driver? |

No, things worked fine on the Nouveau. However I also managed to solve the problem by downgrading to Xorg-server 1.19.5-r2. So i guess I'll stay on Xorg 1.19.x for now and see if the problem has been fixed when 1.19 gets removed from gentoo |

Not to bump, but I also ran into this bug recently, and also downgrading from Xorg-server 1.20.3 to 1.19.5-r2 worked.
However, I was running on version 1.20.3 for a few weeks, and it was working, but that was before upgrading my kernel to 4.14.83 (from 4.14.65) and my nvidia-drivers to 415.18 (I don't know which was the stable driver version before this one).
So it might be a particular issue between the drivers 415.18 and xorg 1.20.3. Since the X log is not more informative, nor is the nvidia-driver, there isn't much to go along to figure out what's causing this issue. |

Interesting, as I wrote before I had problems with 410.x drivers. I'm a bit hesitant about updating in case things break again and now <xorg-server-1.20 appears to be masked in portage. Did you figure out what was actually causing the problems or any workarounds on the affected drivers? I can't find much on google |

Today update world upgraded my xorg-server to version 1.20.4, I had forgotten about this bug until it came back. Worse, now I can't rollback to a previous xorg version as portage only has the ebuilds for versions 1.20.3 and 1.20.4
I have no idea what to do, and I find it weird that there hasn't been more bug reports about this. Since it's an unsupported package, we may be stuck, need to change to wayland, or change to nouveau? |

I see that your GTX 780 should be supported as well by the 415.x and 418.x drivers (and 390.x) => maybe it's worth trying them all out.
|
Of course it was updated as well. Today, while trying to setup wayland to see if that'd help, I figured out a workaround. My xorg-server only fails to load the NVIDIA glx module when it was compiled with the minimal USE flag. I removed minimal from xorg-server and it works again just fine.
Code: |
> emerge -pv xorg-server nvidia-drivers
These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-418.56:0/418::gentoo USE="X acpi driver gtk3 kms multilib tools -compat -static-libs -uvm -wayland" ABI_X86="(64) -32 (-x32)" 0 KiB
[ebuild R ] x11-base/xorg-server-1.20.4:0/1.20.4::gentoo USE="ipv6 suid udev xorg -debug -dmx -doc -elogind -glamor -kdrive -libressl -minimal (-selinux) -static-libs -systemd -unwind -wayland -xcsecurity -xephyr -xnest -xvfb" 0 KiB
|
This might actually be an xorg-server bug then, if it only happens when compiling with the minimum USE flag. |
