Enlightenment 16  THE ORGINAL ENLIGHTENMENT  
Nowadays HITCH-HIKED by a so called Entlightenment17 18 19 20 ... 22, what ever. It's a total other WM  
Years of both slotted under the same name... the hitch-hikers kicked the ORIGINAL Enlightenment out
Now  it is only available through this unofficial overlay 
Enlightenment DR16 Gentoo Overlay
To install the overlay:
layman -o https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mcclung/e16-overlay/master/repositories.xml -f -a e16-overlay

i3
I've used so many different WMs over the years, eventually settling with Enlightenment for a long time (15, 16, both 17s, 19, Moksha). Also Gnome & KDE at times. But once I started using i3 I simply had no need for anything else.
i3 is perfectly elegant.

My latest destination through the WM/DE Lemarchand Configuration has left me with i3.
I may next take a look at some of the *box WMs. But that may quickly lead to repeating old mistakes.
I have dwm installed, but recompiling just to change the configuration makes it unusable. I'm keeping it around for possible attempts at development.
Xmonad is interesting, but I don't think now is the time to dive into Haskell (similar with awesome/lua).

e20, xfce4, kde.
i hop around on a monthly basis between the 3, i used enlightenment for a looong long time but maybe begining of the year i started using plasma more and more, now i'm just back to a highly satisfying xfce4.
prolly soon back to e20 or whatever release they are at now |

| When I was using Manjaro, from this August until last week, I was using its i3 community version. But now, in Gentoo, I wanted to try Bspwm. And I'm happy with it so far. |

Basically this.
Discovered tiling WMs a while ago, started looking into the different environments out there. Spent time reading the docs for i3 after hearing so much about it, but never even tried it. The limited config versus the open freedom of Lua-driven config was too much of a trade-off to simply ignore. I'd rather see it Perl-driven but can't be too picky. Ended up learning enough Lua to be able to build the customisations I wanted to write myself.
Finally, a window manager that actually manages windows. Hardly need the mouse now.

Yeah, you can do much more than in other WM's, it's really powerful.
I had to learn Lua as well, it's not that bad, pretty easy actually.
The only thing I don't get yet is whether to use luajit USE flag or not, supposed to be faster with it, I tried it but I didn't notice any difference.
I guess there's a reason for it to be off by default in a few packages that I've noticed which have that USE flag.
That's not AwesomeWM related but it's a Lua thing, anyway I left it turned off. |

Same here for a very long time now. I do most stuff from terminal prompts and have hotkeys configured to launch apps I use a lot. I found that I never missed desktop icons at all. People see my desktop and think something's broken . |
I join in . Been using it for > 10 years now, occasionaly copying (or meanwhile pulling) the config files to a box. Always annyoing to be somewhere where F1 doesn't bring up a terminal and F2 doesn't bring the browser etc.
I guess I'm using it since my very first linux installation some time around 2003 or 2004. Afaik it shipped as the lightweight WM with Knoppix these days. I liked it and never used anything else since. |

| I was for quite long time an Awesome user. But many bugs has bitten me and I've moved to Xmonad last year. I don't regret. 100% stable. It's harder to configure than Awesome. I don't know how to program in Haskell, but maybe I've learned something by tweaking my xmonad.hs. The interface is a lot more simple and this is the beauty of Xmonad. |

Window Maker.
I've used lots of window managers and desktop environments (amiwm, fvwm, enlightenment, icewm, gnome1, xfce, openbox, awesome and i3), but I always come back to wmaker.
I like it's simple interface, flexibility on window manipulation and ability to focus window without bringing it up. Also alt-tab is more flexible than in openbox - you can use cursor keys (or even mouse!) to quickly select a program instead of hitting alt-tab again and again.
There are even options for making desktop minimalist - clip, mini icons and dockbar can be turn off completely - I've been using it together with tint2 for some time.

Using dwm for about a month now, never used it before, it's perfect, amazing!
AwesomeWM is good, but this one is way better and faster.
