Sounds like you're using the modesetting driver and no suid.
I spent several hours trying to get my laptop past that point this morning, I finally gave up and just set it for suid.
I've gotten non-root X to work with other video drivers but not that one.
I couldn't even get the suid-wrappers to work.
There's probably some magic that might make it work, but I got tired of trying, when I get bored I'll take it out and try again.
ETA: If you're using intel graphics, and modesetting then it's possible to use the old xf86-video-intel and get it working, ... but that's falling by the wayside in favor of the modesetting driver, so not a long term solution. Also there's a possibility of playing with /dev/dri/card0 permissions to see if it will get past that point. As I said I'll get back to playing with it later, but the laptop it not my primary system, so I play with it when bored. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

No, not using modesetting that I know of. I checked the kernel settings against the Xorg/Guide.
In fact, I haven't changed the kernel at all since it was last working. Still using the same kernel. All I did was a -uDN @world and I believe xorg-server got upgraded to 1.20.3. And now I can't get it back. |

Ok, I'm good. I reinstalled xf86-video-intel.
