After my last update yesterday, I had to
Code:

chmod u+s /usr/bin/Xorg

in order to use startx. Otherwise, I was getting permission errs on /dev/tty0. What changed?

They've been playing with the suid use flag. It used to be on by default, now you have to set it manually (/etc/portage/package.use) or global use flag (not recommended) or do what you did, ie chmod (same as setting the suid flag)

Note: In my case, since I'm the only one on my computer, I just changed owner of tty7 and used startx without being suid. but you also need to be in the input and video groups (manually add or use udev rule). I also don't use the vt? option to startx.

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads in favour of startx fails with xorg-server 1.20.
