Well, what did you put in /boot ?

Take a look at what's there...have you been make installing kernels there without removing the old ones perhaps?

128MB, I don't know if you're sharing this as an EFI partition for another OS, but at kernels at 4-5MB a piece you should be able to store a couple there, though not tons. Keep in mind your initrds need to be there too, so watch those as well.

That does not look like typical df output. OP: please show the df command you ran and the full content of the relevant line. Omit any irrelevant filesystems you wish to hide, but do not edit the line for the relevant filesystem.

The section was formatted in ext2.
I again created /boot and formatted it in ext4.

The boot should be ext2 since the journaling features of ext3/4 are only taking up space. That was completely pointless and destructive. You want to clean the unused stuff, not nuke the system.

If you're limited on RAM, some of those g++ programs will make your computer thrash badly, making it seem like it's frozen until it is ready to give up when it's truly out of memory.

But there's not enough clues yet as to what's going on... are you out of RAM?

A couple questions:

How many kernels do you have in your /boot? Is it possible you could remove old kernel versions to buy some space? While you are at it, any initramfs files that are no longer in use could likewise be pitched...

I agree, that doesn't look like DF output, but assuming 128M...
IMHO, 128M is not very much space for modern kernels -- especially if you like to keep the older ones around for a bit after updating. Can you stretch it?

Can you give the output of df -Th?

And, the last line of output from a failed "emerge" isn't very useful. Can you give at least the last dozen or so? Maybe throw in the output of an "emerge --info"?

This topic has been very confusing, so you got past your /boot out of disk space issue and now stuck while emerging something, probably qtwebkit?

2GB RAM is tight for 64-bit, you may need to reduce your MAKEOPTS from -j3 to -j2.

You might want to open another topic if the new problem is unrelated to the initial issue.
