|
|
Hello,
I've installed gentoo some 3 month ago.
Only Now, the it was that it is better to use xfce (which is lighter) than kde.
Is it possible to uninstall kde and move to xfce ?
How should I do this ?
Thank you for the help!

You used plasma-meta package? if yes you can install xfce4 and then remove plasma-meta package and run a depclean (check what depclean want uninstal before). _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

To add to fedeliallalinea:
If you installed KDE by selecting the "default/linux/*/desktop/plasma" profile, removing it would have you follow the steps in the above post, changing your profile to a "generic" desktop profile, e.g. "default/linux/amd64/17.0/desktop" (or any other non-plasma profile, depending on your requirements) instead of removing the meta-package. _________________

Hi,
I think I have the default plasma profile.
So, What are the exact steps after changing from plasma profile to generic profile ?
Is it just updating the world set ?
Thank you very much,

I would do the following steps
- install xfce4 and test if work
- uninstall plasma
- change profile
For change profile you can use eselect profile en than run emerge -uND --with-bdeps y @world _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

Hi fedeliallalinea,
I am not expert in grntoo, so I have a question:
Quote: | "I would do the following steps
install xfce4 and test if work
uninstall plasma
change profile
" |
1. "install xfce4 and test if work" - if it works I will stop in this step of course, right ?
2. "For change profile you can use eselect profile en than run emerge -uND --with-bdeps y @world"
Does it mean that some of my current installations might get proken or uninstalled ?
Thanks,
ranran |

No, if works you can uninstall plasma. This step is only to make sure we don't stay without a working DE.

No simply profile usually set a default use flags, package.mask,... considering that you want use xfce probably some use flags set in plasma profile will no longer useful for xfce.
plasma profile comes from desktop profile and add these use flags
Code: | USE="activities consolekit declarative dri kde kipi kwallet phonon plasma policykit qml semantic-desktop widgets xcomposite" |
that probably don't make sense in xfce.
But if you want keep also plasma you can remain in plasma profile _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |
