Just curious- is Gentoo skipping the Aug 16 first kde-apps-18.08 release (for whatever reason), and waiting for the 18.08.1 update currently set for Sept. 6?
Would make good sense if their were minor upstream or maybe ebuild problems or delays.

Well, it depends if you are using the stable or testing branch.
If you are on stable, you won't see 18.08 for many months, as it only gets the previous KDE version with all the bug fixes present: like 1x.0x.3.
If you are on testing, it may simply be due to vacations that the 18.08 series didn't arrive yet. At least that is my opinion, which might not be correct... |

kde-apps-18.08.0 was added late in the cycle to kde overlay, without prior packaging of the RC, due to vacations in Summer.
akonadi-18.08.0 had received major work right until the release, and consequently issues were reported upstream after 18.08.0 had been made.
kde-frameworks-5.50 will contain a new package previously being part of kde-apps, and reverse-deps are right now being adjusted in the overlay, so that 18.08.1 will effectively depend on KF-5.50, to be released this Saturday.
kde-apps-18.08.1 will be added to tree right afterwards with the exception of kpat, which is missing a dependency not available in Portage. |

| 18.8.2 was released and also plasma 5.14 was released for more than a week, but I didn't see these in the portage. Are the developers waiting for the framework 5.51? |

18.08.2 is in ~amd64 portage, and for example konsole is running with:
KDE Frameworks 5.50.0
Qt 5.11.1 (built against 5.11.1)
The xcb windowing system

No, not quite.
Plasma-5.14.0 release: 2018-10-09
Plasma-5.14.1 release: 2018-10-16 (in less than 24h)
It was not really worth to expose the tree to .0, considering we currently already have 3 versions of Plasma in the ebuild repository. I rather get one more week of testing for 5.13.5 stabilisation, finally clean up 5.12.x then add the more polished 5.14.1. |
