Hallo friends.
Today I did an
Code:
eix-sync
on my pre-Gentoo pc-box. My intention is to have a backup system for my main system, with almost same hardware bit less RAM and less size NVME. So, first I added:
Code:
kde-apps/*
to my /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/zz-autounmask
and then I started a simple emerge:
Code:
USE="pulseaudio" emerge -a kmix
to achieve that my volume control keys are accepted by kmix/pulseaudio. Finished with this, I wanted to update my system due to the change in /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/zz-autounmask (kde-apps/*)

So, in the Plasma konsole, I started as root:
Code:
eix-sync
and everything looked normal until the end, so I was waiting for the hashing results, which did not appear.
Instead, the system hanged. I could no more change to any window and no alternate terminal. So, I had to hard reset.

Next then, I rebooted into Plasma, here I looged out and in a terminal (<Alt> <F2>) I logged in as root and started:
Code:
emerge --sync

and the result was
Code:
Number of files: 162.594 (reg: 135,066, dir 27,528)
Number of created files: 0
Number of deleted files: 2 (reg:2)
Number of regular files transferred: 20
Total file size: 218.21M bytes
Total transferred file size:1.14M bytes
Literal data: 1.14M bytes
Matched data: 0 bytes
File list size: 0
...
...
Total bytes sent: 4.94M
Total bytes received: 28.71K

sent 4.9M bytes  received 28.71K  3.31M bytes/sec
total size is 218.21M  speedup is 43.92

I had to hard reset again, but before, I photographed the last lines with my mobile and then typed these lines by hand.
Any idea, what happened? Am I banned, because I synced too many times?
Last time was three or four days ago (on Tuesday, with the other, the main Gentoo system).

This is my system:
Code:
emerge --info
Portage 2.3.49 (python 3.6.5-final-0, default/linux/amd64/17.0/desktop/plasma/systemd, gcc-7.3.0, glibc-2.26-r7, 4.18.5-gentoo_tuxedo x86_64)

Not that this should change anything, but have you tried limiting the number of threads that you use with MAKEOPTS? I see that you have 9 enabled. Personally, I find that using 1 + the number of cpu cores you have is slower than using just the number of cpu cores in your system as the MAKEOPTS value ( if you have an 8 core system, use -j8 ).

Whats the output of dmesg?

Also is it possible for you to run top/htop at all after you start the sync, or does your system freeze immediately?

I forgot about this unsolved thread here, so I opened a new one. My mistake.
The new one is here:https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1089106-highlight-.html
