I used kdeconnect in the past and it provided useful functionality. However, I haven't been able to get my phone and laptop to connect for a while, even when I try to connect via IP address (which also worked in the past, when plain network browsing didn't).

I'm using kdeconnect-1.3.1 on Gentoo (current stable and only ebuild) and 1.8.4 on my Android phone (8.1.0).

I'm using firewalld and had defined a service to make sure kdeconnect could work:

Code:
# firewall-cmd --info-service=kdeconnect
kdeconnect
  ports: 1714-1764/udp 1714-1764/tcp
  protocols:
  source-ports:
  modules:
  destination:

(As per <https://community.kde.org/KDEConnect#firewalld>. This was enough in the past.)
EDIT: It also doesn't work when I disable the firewall entirely…

Is anyone successfully using kdeconnect?
Does anyone know what might be the problem?

kdeconnect still connects to my samsung tablet, but it
is flaky, at least when copying from computer to
tablet I get frequent "cannot copy" errors for no apparent
reason (seems to help if I go very slow and not try
to copy multiple folders at once)

But I can no longer see the sd-card on the tablet (well,
it shows up in dolphin but does not show any files)

just noticed more flakiness: suddenly copying failed to the
the tablet with "could not enter folder" error

like too many kde apps, kdeconnect has the air of a junior
school project by talented but distracted students (or am I
just grumpy :) )

I am using the latest kdeconnect from the tree and Version 1.8.4 on my Huawei P8 Lite (Android 6.0) phone.
No problems so far. Everything is solid. Accessing the phone, getting notifications on incoming messages and calls, sending files, everything just works here.

Maybe Android 8 is too new?

Thanks for the feedback. I can live with flakey file transfers as long as it would connect. (I mainly used the shared clipboard functionality.)

Thanks for the feedback. It is good to know that it should work.

I doubt that is it. I had the same issue before I updated from 7.1.2.

There's nothing special you had to do to get the connection going?

Just used KDEConnect to send a file from my Samsung Galaxy note 8 (currently running Android 8.0.0) to my old laptop running Gentoo ~amd64, KDE plasma-meta-5.13.5 and kdeconnect-1.3.1. That worked, and so did sending a file from the laptop to the phone, but 'Multimedia control' and 'Remote input' no longer work (they used to). So it seems KDEConnect is indeed flaky these days.

Ah! I never used that two.

I can't test multimedia control, as I don't have a compatible player. But 'Remote input' doesn't work here either.
