Nope, you're wrong. Thunderbird has nothing to do with it. I modified only Chromium ebuild, didn't touch much ebuild for Thunderbird. The same problem is with Thunderbird from Gentoo's tree |

Perfect Gentleman ... you have to admit, it's one hell of a coincidence. Also, might be worth mentioning you'd filed a bug ... though I don't see "python_wrapper_setup: python3 is not supported by python2.7 (PYTHON_COMPAT)" in the provided build.log, that python check seems to pass without error/warning. Where did you get that from?

Code: | 0:02.11 checking for Python 3... : python_wrapper_setup: python3 is not supported by python2.7 (PYTHON_COMPAT) | is the original error.
Then I played with PYTHON_COMPAT to see it helps, but it didn't. |

Perfect Gentleman ... no, that is not in the build.log, nor in the section you posted originally ... the only place this occurs is in the small snippit in the "it didn't work" post, and I expect this is the result of your "play[ing] with PYTHON_COMPAT". So, that's probably a red herring, as it wasn't the reason the build failed in both the inital post to this thread, and the bug (and so not the "same problem is with Thunderbird from Gentoo's tree"). So, what happens with =mail-client/thunderbird-60.0-r2::gentoo? ... because that is the only ebuild I have access to.

Perfect Gentleman ...
switch default python and try again. The python in moz.configure/init.configure is going to fail with 2.7 and for whatever reason the configure sees you have 3.7 but run's 2.7 (I expect because it is the default).

Perfect Gentleman ... ok, in which case the issue is with mozilla's configure.

Perfect Gentleman ... not 100% sure, it sets up a python2 virtualenv, installs setuptools, pip, etc, and later runs moz.configure/init.configure (I assume with python2) but this fails because the differences in python (specifically the way that python2 handles the tupple 'cpu, manufacturer, os').
I see that the above build.log shows "checking for Python 3... : python_wrapper_setup: python3 is not supported by python2.7 (PYTHON_COMPAT)" which was absent from the build.log attatched to the bug. No idea what's happening there, but 'python_wrapper_setup' is from python*-1.eclass and so something may be going wrong with what portage is passing to configure.

it's more interesting that Thunderbird-60.0-r2 was built fine several days ago. And on Sept, 23 smth triggered the rebuild of Firefox and Thunderbird. Firefox was rebuilt fine, but Thunderbird-60.0-r2 cannot be rebuilt. |
