The most popular issue while building the Qt WebEngine seems to be insufficient amount of RAM. I can't tell this for sure from your build log snippet, but it might be seen a bit earlier on (I usually search for 'error: ' in them logs). If it's too large for a pastebin-like site as is, you could cut a bunch from the middle for example, or after the early beginning (the very beginning has useful info, which I might leave in).

You might also see mentions of a process being killed by the OOM reaper in 'dmesg'.

With 'KiB Mem: 6087940 total, 4100500 free' and 'MAKEOPTS="-j8 -l8"', I probably wouldn't be surprised if this is the case (was 'distcc' disabled during the build?).

Things you could try, if adding RAM is not feasible: lower MAKEOPTS or add swap, though dipping into swap may prove to be slower than lowering MAKEOPTS.

For me, the build with MAKEOPTS="-j16" takes all it can of 16 GiB of RAM, /plus/ over 8 GiBs of swap, but with '-j12' I think it stays within RAM.

As for updating KDE, this package shouldn't hold you back from doing that. You could, for example, use '--exclude "qtwebengine"' and probably add whatever is pulling that in, too. :]

There's ebuilds in the qt-overlay that have the jumbo-build patch which you can disable to help this situation. Also if you have your portage tmp on tmpfs you can run out of ram that way too. The wiki has a fix for that if you want to apply it to qtwebengine.

I just modifed the 11.1 ebuild in my local overlay for the jumbo-build.

I did this the other day but it still failed to build so I was right on the edge of having enough ram, today it suceeded after 2.5 hours. I've went ahead and disabled my tmpfs for it now so that should solve the problem in the future at the cost of taking a little longer I'd guess.

Yeah, it might not have a huge effect nowadays, since they lowered the 'jumbo_file_merge_limit' to '8' (if I remember right, when it was first enabled, it was 100 (Chromium default possibly still), then 50, 20, and 8).

I only noticed they went that low when I added the USE-flag. Was also going to test its effects more thoroughly than I have, but didn't get to it yet. :\

Hello,

Ok thx for the answers, i was already thinking about memory issue. I'm trying with MAKEOPTS="-j4 -l4" and i'll see. I didn't find any error in the portage log.

See you.
