Hi,

as mentioned in the title, the XF86Audioxxx keys are not working.
I use awesome wm as window manager and I am using the same keybindings in rc.lua like on arch linux.

Code:

awful.key({ }, "XF86AudioRaiseVolume",    function () awful.util.spawn("amixer set Master 2+") end),
    awful.key({ }, "XF86AudioLowerVolume",    function () awful.util.spawn("amixer set Master 2-") end)

However, those keys do not work on gentoo, but on arch linux.

Have I forgotten something?

Best,
mike

mikexx ... often those keys are toggled via the 'fn' key (at least on most laptops). Otherwise it depends on kbd, some peripherals (like logitech) can be configured (via app-misc/solaar) to have one or other behavior.

Hi khay,

thank you for your reply.
It is a Thinkpad T480.

Of course, I tried the fn key. ;)

Since the acpi events are recognized, I've just tried it settings the volume with amixer and acpi. That works. Only toggle (mute) is not working correctly. Master and Speaker are muted, but only Master is unmuted.

EDIT:
Another problem is that only the volume of the internal soundcard is changed, but not the volume of the Thunderbolt dock.

mikexx ... well, that's the obvious out the way :)

Odd, as 'Master' (as the name suggests) should effect all outputs. That (and the comment re the dock) suggests that the driver doesn't understand the hardware.

Are you sure the thunderbolt dock is supported? A quick search suggests not (circa 2017), at least for some devices.

Yes, I am sure. I can regulate the volume with alsamixer.
The dock is listed as soundcard in alsamixer and the main volume control there is named 'PCM'

If I change 'Master' I change the volume of the 'other' soundcard.
