PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2018 6:35 pm    Post subject: Gnome 3 - failed to login after gcc update Reply with quote

After updating gcc to 8.2.0 from 7.3.0, and rebuilding the whole system (emerge @world -eq), i'm unable to login to gnome. After entering credentials, screen goes black for 1 second, and returns to login screen.
If i choose "GNOME on Wayland" - it works perfectly and i'm able to login.
But if i choose GNOME or "GNOME Classic" - it fails to login.
Any help would be appreciated.
Here is a log from Xorg.0.log:

Your X server is crashing with what appears to be a null pointer dereference. What is the output of emerge --info? What are the specific Gentoo package versions of the X server, X video drivers, etc.?

From original post, I would imagine this might be your problem
Code:
17.888] xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted)

which then caused the other cascading errors.

Edit to add: setting your display driver with appropriate options in xorg.conf might fix the problem.

yesterday after emerge --sync, there was an update to gcc, and after updating gcc, reemerged the whole tree (emerge @world -e) and now everything works fine
