OK, I am building Gentoo 64bit for a new desktop. The system appears to simply freeze after checking fro W+X mappings.
Freeze
The system is using two identical disks in BTRFS RAID1. GRUB was installed to both sda and sdb, and it is working since I can boot the kernel until it freezes. My configuration and such are linked below.

Anyway, I still cannot get past those W+X mappings messages. I am posting my fstab and some more info.

The motherboard is an ASUS P5Q Turbo coupled to a Core2Quad Q8400. I am running two disks in RAID1 BTRFS as stated above. System Rescue CD boots and allows me access (I use SysRescCD to install Gentoo) so I know it is something I did and not a hardware error.

On my machine, the next message after the W+X mappings messages is the start message of the init system. So it seems that your Linux kernel can't access your disks and thus can't start the init system (Systemd, OpenRC, whatever you use).
1) Please check the kernel boot parameters
2) Look at the lines below in your kernel config:

Why did you configure CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SD as 'm'? The Linux kernel needs this module to access your disks and to start the init system. I don't know if this is the cause of the kernel freeze - but I would change it to "y". |

That is one big face-palm. I cannot believe I marked that as module. Rebuilding now. I am willing to bet you are correct and that is indeed the issue. Will know soon. Thanks!
