colord and color calibration

Hi all,

I am currently running plasma on X11. My monitor got calibrated with displaycal and the generated profile gets loaded by displaycal

Unfortunately there is no way to make displaycal work on wayland. I got told to use colord for profile loading.
Oh well, the icc profile generated by displaycal won't load in colord.
I then did a search and stumbled across gnome-color-manager. Which tells me to select a device to calibrate without any hint how to identify it.
Searched again and a howto on gnome.org [1] mentions some settings tool. Made a guess and installed gnome-control-center. Which has the mentioned "color" entry.
But it only lists my good old Brother B+W laser printer (why?!?).

Now I'm stuck. Has somebody here been able to calibbrate a monitor and get an icc profile that is compatible with colord?
Any hint what I could be missing? Do these gnome-tools only work properly when run from within a full gnome-shell-session?

I'm thankful for any help!

So soll es sein, although I went with 'Desktop Environments' as it felt a better of a fit to me.

colord comes with command line tools that may help here. Run `colormgr get-devices`. Is your monitor shown there? If it is, but it doesn't have an associated ICC file, you can set one using `colormgr device-add-profile ...`

colormgr get-devices only shows the brother printer.

That's weird. Try installing xiccd and run it temporarily, see if that causes the monitor to show up in colord's list. Plasma should be doing this itself, but it looks like that might be the problem...

xiccd really made the device visible. I could then run gcm-calibrate. Took more than 2 hours instead of the advertised 20 minutes to finish calibration.
And it seemed to work initially. But at some point in the plasma-wayland-session something "interfered" and I was back to uncalibrated red skin tones and bad contrast.
I have no idea what is causing this!
Unfortunately disabling the "kde color service" isn't enough, applications like gwenview seem to still start/use/whatever colord as colors are off. I need to uninstall all colord-related stuff including gtk and kde integration.

At least now I know how to proceed which is way more than I knew before your hints!
I will revisit this from time to time and see if things work out better.
