Hi, all,

I'm curious - would it be better for me to just report a possible omission from a specific wiki page in a thread here, or head over to that wiki's talk page and do it there?

As for fixing it myself -well, I'm still a n00b - so I'd rather bring the point up and lete an expert / dev/ maintainer take a look and see if m point is valid or not....

This is a good question. There are undoubtedly countless little things missing or are outdated on the wiki that no-one (that can edit) notices. Is the talk page a good place to raise awareness of those flaws?

johngalt,

Use the talk page. When you do that, all contributors to the page will be emailed so you should get a talk page response too.

The wiki is "Mostly Harmless" to quote a well known book. Most pages can be improved.
Don't be afraid to sign up and just fix it, thats how things get done.

The wiki is like a better mousetrap. Every time its improved better mice come along.

Thanks all. I had actually already signed up a while back and was going to do just that with another wiki article. But when I viewed the actual talk page of said wiki I was daunted, because the discussions there were more along development lines and less about actual content.

But I take your point, Neddy - by using talk I'll generate exactly the kind of inspection that is needed for the missing step (or else get told that the wiki is written that way for whatever reason).

Thanks again, @marcih @fedeliallalinea and @NeddySeagoon for the responses.

I should have signed up and started contributing years ago--so many little slights and slips I thought I saw (how many of those percieved missteps were from my own ignorance?)--so far-gone now I couldn't be paid to remember what they were.

Now I know (thanks to this thread) next time I install and am walking the handbook, I'll be preening through it with a keen eye to help make it better in any little way I can.

So mad I wasn't the first to make a HGttG reference, Neddy :)

Ah, I wasn't aware, thanks. :) I think I'll stick to contributing things like layout and language (translation, grammar, spelling etc.) changes and not touch the technical parts (yet) because I'm much more confident in my language abilities than my technical abilities.
