OK, it seems I have a similar problem to one other member at the same time. But different, that's why I started a separate topic. ;)

I have a gentoo workstation. It had sound working, I didn't have to do anything special for it.
Then one day I discovered the sound didn't work. I tried all the troubleshooting I could find and failed to find the cause.
I lived with it for some time but finally decided it can't be like that.
I reinstalled the system and the sound worked again.

The stopped working again.

I test with speaker-test -Dfront, though try different speaker-test commands too.

Again, I tried my best to find the problem and again I failed. So now, could you please help me?

I have alsasound service started, in the alsamixer only S/PDIF* is muted (00).

Perhaps this issue is related. It can be common to misunderstand ideal or correct kernel config requirements for alsa

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8240914.html#8240914

are you uefi booting with such new pc hardware?

it would be ideal to not use legacy boot modes for several beneficial reasons

do you have an /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc by any chance? If you do, we could try renaming them and see if the automatic config works perhaps

Code:
[    0.000000] DMI: Notebook                         N650DU                          /N650DU                          , BIOS 5.12 02/08/2017

the problem with laptop is that generally, for a reason i don't know, they don't pin correctly the card, they use some weird configuration than standard.
giving the oddity that alsa is using what is report as speakers when in fact that line is connect to a mic.
but laptop bios are also (again for a reason i don't know) generally just the shitiest one to use, and changing a setting in the bios may affect the soundcard pin or the wifi or the ethernet card, while you have change nothing that was related to them (it's something to keep in mind, that is really an explain to "my card work, but now my card no more work!")

for many laptop that do that, you have a setting to pass to alsa in order to tell alsa about the "special case".
you will find that info in the linux documentation, on recent kernels, it's this file: /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/hd-audio/models.rst
dig it for your model and codec type, might be known case.

from what you have gave (assuming sound volume is not mute and up), everything is looking good for the alsa part.
you have also the presence of pulse, well, i don't know anything about it, but that's something you should be looking at.

ps: you should also take care about your heating issue

It's probably just Intel Turbo Boost being dumb. edit: This looks like another Clevo. https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1082812-highlight-clevo.html

AFAIK these all use the Realtek audio codec without any special configuration.
