Hi and thanks for reading this.

One of my boxes is getting old, so I thought of changing from Plasma to LXQT (current amd64 stable versions).
Everythinh seems OK except from the fact that it lacks a Trash icon on the desktop. I googled around to no avail.
So, what should I do to get a working trash icon on the LXQT desktop?

Just make file in Desktop folder: trash.desktop ( <your_trash_name>.desktop )

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Icon=user-trash
Name=Trash
GenericName=Trash
Comment=open trash in PCManFM
Categories=FileManager;Utility;Core;GTK;
Exec=pcmanfm-qt trash:///
StartupNotify=true
Terminal=false
MimeType=x-directory/normal;inode/directory;

Thanks for your help. I had tried several versions of the file you propose, but I gave yours a chance. Again, to no avail. I get an error similar to this (translated from Spanish) when I double click on its desktop icon:
Code:
Desktop file entry not valid: «/home/user/Desktop/trash.desktop»

So start with basic config:

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Thrash
Type=Application
Exec=pcmanfm-qt trash:///

Then add next lines and see what causing error.

If that basic setting doesnt work install some desktop utils ? ( no idea what is needed)

EDIT: I found thos on Lxqt gentoo wiki:
Quote:
PCManFM-Qt supports the desktop file specification extension so it is possible to add custom actions to the contextual menu for files and directories.

x11-libs/libfm and x11-libs/libfm-extra v1.2.4 or above are required, and the vala USE flag must be enabled:

FILE /etc/portage/package.use/lxqt
x11-libs/libfm vala

So maybe u need rebuild libfm with vala

Thanks again for your help.

libfm fails to compile with vala support. When I was going to report the bug, I saw two bugs from 2017 reporting the same issue :cry:

2: https://bugs.gentoo.org/642036

Oh, I was sure I built libfm with vala too (or maybe I tried building it with vala long time ago) , but seems I have it disabled now too, and trash I tested - worked.
No idea then what you are missing.

You can just try to see what it requires:
emerge --pretend desktop-file-utils File-DesktopEntry

Maybe they pull some interesting dependency you are missing?
