Element 14 are selling a box to turn a Raspberry Pi into a desktop machine.
It features an RTC, mSATA SSD connector via USB converter, and a real On/Off button.

Has anyone tried it, in particular with 64-bit Gentoo? Would it suffer trim problems with the SSD? Looks likely, from my brief perusal of the Pi+SSD discussions here.

I was thinking of putting a B3+ into it, with an appropriate SSD, and running Hercules to emulate a S/370. All it's missing is water cooling.

Goverp,

I don't have one of these but I run my Pi 3 with /boot on the SD card and everything else on a USB connected SSD.
Its just spread over my desktop. Just for fun, it has a USB DVD player too.

The Pi is powered from a normal Pi 3 2.5A PSU. The SSD and DVD are powered from charging ports on a USB root hub.
The SSD wants 2.5A all to itself, so its way above a USB bus powered device limit.

The Pi 3B+ has the components rearranged and some extra pins for a promised PoE Hat.
The add on board may not fit.

The camera won't work in 64 bit mode but thats not Gentoo.

Is it really true? Because I'm very interested in rpi native camera usage.
