Hi,

KRadio has been removed from portage.

It worked really well for me.

During the last system update, I ended up unmerging it because it was creating blockers.

So I've tried to use GQRadio instead, but it fails to initialize.

It writes Failed to start /dev/radio0 in its GUI.

On the console, it writes the message Error, radio support missing, or failed to init radio device!

Oddly, KRadio was also using /dev/radio0, with no problem

Code:
ls -la /dev/radio0
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 81, 2 Jun  4 19:40 /dev/radio0

The hopefully-relevant dmesgs:

I've tried running GQRadio as root, which doesn't work either, so it's probably not a rights-problem.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I've just added the last version of kradio to kde-sunset overlay, among several other packages. Beware of the wrath of ancient neglected packages in there though.

Hi Asturm!

Using KRadio from an overlay is certainly an option, and I'll keep it in mind, but I'd like to get GQRadio to work also. It *should* work, since the radio device worked for KRadio.

I should have formulated my question better:

What are the alternatives to KRadio (other than GQRadio)?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I used to have a USB AM/FM radio thing, and used GQRadio for years. However, I gave up trying to keep it working a few years back when it became obvious the project had died upstream and would require a significant rewrite to support modern GUI libraries. The whole world has moved on to streaming it seems, and developer attention for /dev/radio devices is now almost non-existent. Your best option IMO is to try to get support under one of the media players (vlc, mpv, et al). In theory the /dev/radio stuff is part of the whole V4L infrastructure which those projects support. I doubt any of the developers have access to the necessary devices for testing, though, so it may take some effort to get something working.
