PostPosted: Tue Jun 19, 2018 1:23 am    Post subject: SDL2 dependent program compile fail, missing header [SOLVED] Reply with quote

I wrote a simple SDL2 program to check if I can use the library:

main.h
Code:

#ifndef _MAIN_H
   #define _MAIN_H

#include <SDL2/SDL.h>
#include <SDL2/SDL_log.h>
#include <iostream>

#endif

main.cpp
Code:

#include "main.h"

int main(){
   if (SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_AUDIO | SDL_INIT_VIDEO) < 0) {
      SDL_log("Cannot initialize SDL: %s", SDL_GetError());
      return 1;
   }
   SDL_Quit();
   return 0;
}

After compiling, I get this error message as a result:
Code:

reimu@toho-genso ~/XXXX/XXXXXX $ g++ main.cpp
In file included from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_config.h:10:0,
                 from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_stdinc.h:31,
                 from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_main.h:25,
                 from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL.h:32,
                 from main.h:4,
                 from main.cpp:1:
/usr/include/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/SDL2/SDL_config.h:33:26: fatal error: SDL_platform.h: No such file or directory
 #include "SDL_platform.h"
                          ^
compilation terminated.

Checking /usr/include/x86_65-pc_linux-gnu/SDL2, I discovered that it only
contained SDL_config.h Moving the entire contents of /usr/include/SDL2/ (while
preserving the original SDL_config.h in the destination) did not help with
making a working executable. I had undefined references to SDL_Init() and
SDL_Quit(), which should both be in SDL.h

Code:

you specified sdl2 header dir?
Code:
$ g++ main.c
In file included from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_config.h:10:0,
                 from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_stdinc.h:31,
                 from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_main.h:25,
                 from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL.h:32,
                 from main.h:4,
                 from main.c:1:
/usr/include/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/SDL2/SDL_config.h:33:26: fatal error: SDL_platform.h: No such file or directory
 #include "SDL_platform.h"
                          ^
compilation terminated.
$ pkg-config --cflags --libs sdl2
-D_REENTRANT -I/usr/include/SDL2 -lSDL2
$ g++ main.c -D_REENTRANT -I/usr/include/SDL2 -lSDL2
main.c: In function ‘int main()’:
main.c:5:58: error: cannot convert ‘const char*’ to ‘double’ for argument ‘1’ to ‘double SDL_log(double)’
       SDL_log("Cannot initialize SDL: %s", SDL_GetError());
                                                          ^

chage SDL_log to SDL_Log
Code:
$ g++ main.c -D_REENTRANT -I/usr/include/SDL2 -lSDL2
$

I changed the function name as you specified, and specified header directory. It worked, thank you.
I thought the header directory would have already been specified automatically...
