I'm trying to update a box that was last done more than a year ago. I went through
all the USE, Mask, and keyword files to clear them. to start pretty much from scratch.

x11-base/xorg-proto fails and x11-proto/xproto is installed, but masked. There are many others, but is there a fix for this?

TIA

EDIT: I find updating always easier if I maintain X. Linux continued to run, but I eventually lost X and then
continued from there. I removed the masked packages and updating went fairly well.

Thanks again

What you mean with 'x11-base/xorg-proto fails'?

Running: # emerge -av x11-proto/xproto

Yields:

Code:
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N     ] x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4::gentoo  0 KiB
[ebuild  N    #] x11-proto/xproto-7.0.31-r1::gentoo  ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" 0 KiB

Answering yes:

Code:
Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] y

>>> Verifying ebuild manifests

>>> Emerging (1 of 2) x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4::gentoo
 * xorgproto-2018.4.tar.gz BLAKE2B SHA512 size ;-) ...

It runs until:

Code:
meson: error: unrecognized arguments: --wrap-mode
 * ERROR: x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4::gentoo failed (configure phase):
 *   (no error message)
 *

 *   environment, line 1987:  Called meson_src_configure
 *   environment, line 1112:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *       tc-env_build "$@" || die
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4::gentoo'`,
 * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4::gentoo'`.
 * The complete build log is located at '/var/log/portage/x11-base:xorg-proto-2018.4:20180615-063509.log'.
 * For convenience, a symlink to the build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4/temp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4/temp/environment'.
 * Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4/work/xorgproto-2018.4'
 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4/work/xorgproto-2018.4'

>>> Failed to emerge x11-base/xorg-proto-2018.4

I don't have enough programming background to interpret this.

Thanks

You can post full build.log?
But it strange
Code:
meson: error: unrecognized arguments: --wrap-mode

--wrap-mode is a correct meson option

Yes, good question, but you lead me wonder if Python is not correct.

the version of meson is 0.44.1 and my highest version of Python is 3.4. Hmm?

EDIT:

Well, it was a lot of guessing, but I managed to much updating before finally losing
X. After that I simply uninstalled many conflicting dependencies blockers.

Everything is up, but a few apps I normally keep fail to emerge, e.g. Gparted.

Thank you!
