|
|
It seems I have scoured the internet to try and figure this out...
I would like to mirror grub and the framebuffer boot that appears on my laptop to my external monitor. Currently, I can't see anything until X starts (on external monitor). However, once it does, I can exit X into Qingy (running on the framebuffer) and see everything.
There are no option in my bios to set this and I am connected via USB-C to a Kensington Dock connected via Displayport.
Thanks in advance. |

returnof Snekiepete ...
if your framebuffer is KMS (and most likely it is) then see the 'video' parameter here (specifically 'conn'). That won't effect anything before the kernel is loaded, and so you're probably stuck with using LVDS for grub.

I have added this line to my Grub command line and updated accordingly.
Code: | video=DP-1.1:3840x2160-32@60e |
I am still not able to see anything on my external monitor until after I start X.
My login manager is Qingy, framebuffer driven, and if I log out of X I can then see Qingy and even log into the console and see it as well. Plymouth also displays during shutdown. This leads me to believe that viewing boot-up should be possible - but I am missing something....
Since I am using a USB-C dock to Displayport - are there kernel options or modules I need to start earlier in the boot process?
I am using EFIFB to drive the framebuffer and nvidia-drivers for X. |

Really hoping for some help here. It works after X starts, so I suspect it’s possible before. |

returnof Snekiepete,
Pasebin your dmesg output and your kernel .config file.
We aso need to know if you are using UEFI or BIOS. _________________ Regards,

AFAIK, the output to be used is figured out by the uefi firmware and can't be changed by efifb. |

I guess what I am trying to figure out is why it works after X starts but not before. |
