I have installed PulseAudio (for the awesome ability to output the same sound to two souncards simultaneously) and my OpenAL games (UT2004, Warzone, Warsow) stopped outputting sound. The application shows in the Applications tab in Sound Preferences, but no sound goes out my speakers. Other PulseAudio aware and good old ALSA apps seem to work correctly.
OpenAL is compiled with both alsa and pulseaudio USE flags, but it probably doesn't matter as I tried disabling either of them with the same results (when OpenAL was compiled with '+alsa -pulseaudio' Applications tab was showing 'ALSA plug-in' near the name of the game, but still no sound). All of those games worked fine before I installed PulseAudio. My configuration is pretty unmodified aside from adding module-combine to /etc/pulse/default.pa (it makes no difference if I remove that line) and having ~/.asoundrc set output to pulse driver as recommended in PulseAudio and Gentoo Wiki. _________________ The question of whether Machines Can Think... is about as relevant as the question of whether Submarines Can Swim.

Nevermind. I emerged openal-1.13 (had stable 1.11.something) and it seems to work (the sound quality is awful, but at least I can hear something) _________________ The question of whether Machines Can Think... is about as relevant as the question of whether Submarines Can Swim.

This is not necessary, the ut2004 ebuild has done it for years... |
