It seems to be the latest one available in the official tree:

Code:
[ebuild   R    ] dev-lang/rust-1.25.0:stable/1.25::gentoo  USE="jemalloc -debug -doc (-extended)" 0 KiB

There is a bug with same erorr on github an solution is use a rust version >=1.20.
You installed rust-1.25 can be the problem? In my system with rust 1.23 cargo compile without error.

I have downgraded to dev-lang/rust-1.23.0-r1 and virtual/rust-1.23.0

dev-util/cargo-0.24 compiles well.

dev-util/cargo-0.26 fails again with the same error message. :(

Try to download a newer bitflags package and try build it manually with cargo build command to see if is a version problem

Hm, builds fine here:
emerge -pv rust cargo:
[ebuild   R    ] dev-lang/rust-1.25.0:stable/1.25::gentoo  USE="jemalloc -debug -doc (-extended)" 0 KiB
[ebuild   R    ] dev-util/cargo-0.26.0::gentoo  USE="-debug -doc -libressl" 0 KiB

Is your cargo ebuild really from the ::gentoo repository?

I'm not sure if it related, but you using currently a old hard masked binutils version (2.27 from emerge --info)
Suggestion: Set (with eselect binutils) a current no hard masked version, and try then a "libtool rust cargo" rebuild.

@Josef.95, you were right, an old rust-bin-1.19.0 was installed and I have no idea how it did not get updated, as there was an update 1.25.0 available in the portage.

anyways, I have removed rust-bin completely, emerge -avuND world did not want to emerge it agian, but cargo-0.26.0 still failed to emerge...

Hm, I think, now you have uninstalled the old rust-bin package
a `emerge -av1 =virtual/rust-1.25.0 =rust-1.25.0 =cargo-0.26.0` build should work.
