Hi guys,

I'm in need of help again. Something (I suppose it was an update) broke my widgets: click me (link to screenshot showing the issues).
Not sure what the issue is, but maybe someone could tell me where to look for a possible cause...

Also, my desktop's compositor sometimes does not work. When I log in, usually, desktop effects work just fine, but every other login, I get an error message saying that the compositor had to be closed. Starting it on that session via keybinds only brings up that error message. I'm also at a loss here...

shameless bump

So no one has issues like these using plasma5? And there's no way to check what is potentially causing this?

You tried to create new user and login with this to see if problem persist?
If not probably you have a broken config file in home directory

I removed all config files and reconfigured my desktop, but the problem persisted. I'll try and see what happens with an entirely new user..

Edit: The problem persists for a new user.
I did some more testing, whenever desktop effects work and I manually disable them via keybind, any desktop objects break graphically (folders, widgets, etc.). Desktop effects sometimes work, sometimes they won't after login. If later is the case, I cannot start them manually, but have to reboot for them to work.

Maybe someone can see something on my emerge --info:

Run lspci as root. What video card/driver is in use?

When the screen is corrupted, are there any error/warning messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log? Any errors in the output of 'dmesg'? How about /var/log/messages?

Hi,

I also noticed compositor issue since few days. When I switch-on computer I have no 3D OpenGL efffects and some artefacts (on my KDE desktop).

However, when I go to [System Settings] and switch Rendered Backed from [OpenGL 3.1] into anything else and click apply, then anything else back into [OpenGL 3.1] and click apply - everything works fine then. But is annoying to do this again after every computer restart.

Found such fresh topic here:

I had similar issues with my Nvidia card, a possible solution is to use XRender as compositing backend or if you use the OpenGL backends try from NVidia driver management GUI, OpenGl section , try to disable the Setting for Sync to Vblank,(this worked for me but I also seen other possible solution posted) In my case I blame the driver because it works fine with XRender

Your xorg.0.log shows the following errors:
Quote:

[ 33.177] (II) Loading sub module "glamoregl"
[ 33.177] (II) LoadModule: "glamoregl"
[ 33.178] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so

[ 33.270] ABI class: X.Org ANSI C Emulation, version 0.4
[ 33.270] (II) glamor: OpenGL accelerated X.org driver based.
[ 33.614] (EE) modeset(G0): eglGetDisplay() failed
[ 33.629] (EE) modeset(G0): glamor initialization failed

For some reason X is not able to load the 2D acceleration driver. An issue with the nvidia driver perhaps?

But it works, when do small change in setting, and the again:

However, I did some testing on other accounts, and looks like everything is fine.

Looks like some configuration file (after unexpected power-off) was corrupted and is causing this issue. Ideally could format entire /home/user partition as it could anything.
