I am experiencing wierd issues with a Gentoo 64 bits system. I have installed clang (version 3.7), and it fails to run:

Code:

$ clang
clang-3.7: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/bin/../lib64/../lib64/libtinfo.so.6: invalid ELF header

Upon closer inspection, the file /usr/lib64/libtinfo.so.6 is a text file, which serves as a placeholder while the real libtinfo.so.6 is in /lib. How do I tell the system to use the proper version of libtinfo, to avoid this error ?

I have been recompiling packages for the best part of the day, and cannot see the light, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Code:

# emerge --info

This is the situation on my system of libtinfo
Code:
# locate libtinfo
/lib64/libtinfo.so.6
/lib64/libtinfo.so.6.0
/lib64/libtinfow.so.6
/lib64/libtinfow.so.6.0
/usr/lib32/libtinfo.so
/usr/lib32/libtinfo.so.5
/usr/lib32/libtinfo.so.6
/usr/lib32/libtinfo.so.6.0
/usr/lib32/libtinfow.so
/usr/lib32/libtinfow.so.5
/usr/lib32/libtinfow.so.6
/usr/lib32/libtinfow.so.6.0
/usr/lib64/libtinfo.so
/usr/lib64/libtinfo.so.5
/usr/lib64/libtinfow.so
/usr/lib64/libtinfow.so.5

No /usr/lib64/libtinfo.so.6 installed in my system.
What is output of command
Code:
# equery b /usr/lib64/libtinfo.so.6

It says that it belongs to sys-libs/ncurses-6.0-r1.

I have had the same issue when trying to install Readline with zef:

Code:
$ 'zef install --force Readline'

Cannot locate native library 'libreadline.so': /usr/lib64/libreadline.so: invalid ELF header

I have been able to solve the issue following the advice from this page.. Basically (in /usr/lib64):

1.- Make a backup of the GNU ld script

Code:
mv libreadline.so libreadline.so.backup

2.- Create a hard link of the needed library:

Code:
ln /lib64/libreadline.so.7.0 libreadline.so

3.- Issue the command: 'zef install --force Readline'

4.- Remove the hard link

Code:
rm libreadline.so

5.- Restore the backup file:

Code:
mv libreadline.so.backup libreadline.so

Just in case somebody, like me, hits this post.

Cheers!
